I wasn’t the guy breaking records. I wasn’t the headline. I wasn’t the one everyone came to watch on Friday nights. But sports still became one of the greatest teachers I’ve ever had.
Because sports taught me something bigger than winning.
It taught me how to be a small piece of something much bigger than myself.
A puzzle piece by itself doesn’t look important… but without it, the picture is incomplete.
Sports taught me how to cheer for someone else’s success without jealousy.
How to sacrifice for the greater good of the team.
How to show up even when nobody notices.
How to keep going when you’re tired, doubted, overlooked, or flat out outmatched.
That’s why I love treating athletes so much.
Because when I look at these kids, I don’t just see ball players. I see future husbands. Future fathers and mothers. Future business owners. Future leaders. Future adults trying to figure life out.
And the truth is… for most of the guys in this photo, this may be the highest level of baseball they ever play. There’s a good chance there won’t be college stadiums, draft calls, or professional contracts waiting for them after this.
But this will NOT be the peak of their life.
Not even close.
Because the lessons this game gives you stay long after the lights shut off and the uniform comes off.
Life is going to hit them hard one day. It hits all of us hard.
There will be seasons where they feel behind. Seasons where they lose. Seasons where the world convinces them they aren’t enough.
Sports plant something deep inside you.
It teaches you that sometimes all you can do is show up and outwork everybody.
It teaches you to keep believing in yourself even when nobody else does.
It teaches resilience. Accountability. Brotherhood. Discipline. Heart.
And honestly… some of the greatest men I know were built on fields just like this one.
So why am I so passionate about sports?
Because sports helped make me who I am.
It taught me lessons no classroom ever could.
And even though the games eventually end for all of us… the impact never does. So yeah, I love sports and what it does to shape young adults.
