✨ Exciting Progress at Colfax General LTC! ✨
We are thrilled to share the updated floor plan for the new Colfax General Long Term Care facility! With Phase 1 of construction nearly complete, we now move into Phase 2—the East Wing. This project has been years in the making, and it’s finally becoming reality.
A heartfelt thank you to:
💙 Franken Construction and Dekker for standing by us and turning vision into reality.
💙 Through tireless dedication and teamwork, CGLTC has secured $36 million in funding, overcoming every obstacle, and pushing this project forward step by step.
💙 Our supportive community, who chose hope and encouragement over doubt. Your belief in us is the reason we keep moving forward.
This moment proves what truly matters: hard work, integrity, and community spirit will always shine through. It’s also why Colfax General LTC is proud to be a 5-Star facility, recognized as one of the best nursing homes in New Mexico.
Most importantly, everything we do is for our residents. They are the heart of this facility the key factor in every decision, the center of our mission, and truly our world. This new facility isn’t just about growth; it’s about honoring them with the care, comfort, and dignity they deserve.
Colfax General LTC has always been here for this community, and this new facility is about more than bricks and walls, it’s about securing care for our elders, supporting families, and building a stronger future.
The updated floor plan will be on display in the lobby of our current LTC. Stop by, take a look, and celebrate this important step forward with us!

🌟 Thank You for Your Generosity! 🌟
We would like to sincerely thank Larry & Zita Lopez and Cody & Jenny Hazen for their generous donation of Farm raised pork to Colfax General LTC.
This kind and thoughtful donation brought so much joy to our home and our residents enjoyed the best breakfast ever this morning, and the smiles said it all. 💛 Moments like these remind us how wonderful it is to have a community that cares so deeply. Thank you again for your generosity.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Town of Springer Field Crew for helping us address the ongoing issues with the ditch near our facility. We want to let everyone know that if you are coming to the Colfax General LTC Lab for services, please use caution when parking in this area.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had several vehicles accidentally drive into this section and get stuck. Thanks to the Town’s quick response, railroad ties have now been installed as barriers to prevent this from happening again. 🚧
We truly appreciate the teamwork and support to keep our patients, visitors, and staff safe. Please be mindful when parking and help us spread the word!

🎒📚 First Day Ready! 📚🎒
Today was a big day for our Colfax General LTC Daycare kiddos their first day of school at Springer Schools! These Little Red Devils were all smiles and excitement as they headed out, backpacks on and hearts full. ❤️
But before the day could truly begin, they made one very important stop… to visit their dear friend and resident, Mr. Jerry. ✨ After spending the summer laughing, playing, and bonding with him, it was only right that he got to send them off with hugs, high-fives, and a reminder to "have a great day and behave!"
The connection between our residents and daycare kids is truly something special a beautiful reminder that love, care, and community know no age. 💕
Here’s to a great school year for these bright young stars we’re so proud of you already! 🌟📖✏️

❤️Happy Nurses Week to the Incredible Team at Colfax General Long Term Care! ❤️

This week, we proudly honor the nurses who form the heart of our facility. We want to especially recognize our Director of Nursing, Gayle Bustos, whose tireless dedication and steady leadership set the tone for compassionate, high-quality care.

We are also deeply grateful for our exceptional RNs: Whitley Coca, Kelli Chiarmonte, Caitlin Romero, and Donna Rodarte. These leaders work day in and day out to ensure our residents receive the best possible care—every hour of every day.

Many don’t realize what it takes to run a 24/7 care facility. It’s a commitment that demands more than just clinical skill. It takes compassion, resilience, accountability, and strong leadership—qualities each of these nurses embody. As charge nurses, they lead by example, support their teams, and make decisions that directly impact the well-being of those we serve.

They are not only healthcare providers—they are an integral part of our residents’ everyday lives, bringing comfort, familiarity, and connection in addition to excellent medical care.

To our nursing staff: Thank you for your heart, your grit, and your unwavering commitment to our residents. Your work is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated—not just this week, but every day.

A Small Facility With A Big Heart

In 1986, the South Central Colfax County Special Hospital District ( SCCCSHD) was formed to bring health care providers and health care services to rural communities of Colfax County. At that time there was a small general hospital in Springer and no medical providers in either Cimarron or Angel Fire. Over the years, we have converted the hospital to a 33 bed Nursing Facility, opened the Cimarron Healthcare Clinic with one physician, and opened the Moreno Valley Healthcare Clinic with one Family Physician and two Family Nurse Practitioners. We are also operating a full service Laboratory that covers the entire county. The hospital district area of operations is based upon the school district boundaries for Maxwell, Springer and Cimarron School Districts. We cover almost 3,100 square miles with a service population of 6,000. This is considered Frontier Medicine when you compare this area on a national basis. The nearest General Acute Hospital is in Raton, Miner’s Colfax Medical Center which is 35 miles from Springer and 60 miles from Cimarron. Holy Cross Hospital in Taos is the closest hospital for the Moreno Valley and it is over 30 miles away through mountain canyons.

SCCCSHD is governed by a 5 member board that is elected by popular vote to represent each of the school districts. These board members are elected by their constituents and they must also be consumers of the hospital district’s services. During their 5 year terms, they oversee operations of all aspects of the district.

Funding for the district come from a 4.25 Mill Levy tax on properties within the district’s boundaries. . This Mill Levy is voted on by the district’s service population every 4 years
