Since the National Correctional Employees Union's inception, our union has filed legislation and lobbied/fought to prevent and protect our members due to the physical and mental health ailments suffered in the line of duty. In a recent study, approximately a third of all correctional officers suffer from depression and PTSD. Additionally, with an estimated 156 su***des every year, it’s time to attack this problem head on. Due to these physical and mental health ailments caused by working in corrections, i.e. depression, PTSD, su***de, divorce, and heart disease just to name a few; the NCEU is now taking a much more active role in prevention than ever before. The NCEU is very happy to announce that an employee assistance program (EAP) has been obtained for our members. This new benefit is free for all members of the NCEU. ***deawareness www.nceu.org
