We're excited to announce that Emily Tyde has joined the birth center team. Emily is a Certified Professional Midwife who also has a background in massage therapy. Through various jobs, she has gained many skills that benefit her midwifery practice, including being excellent at IV insertions! She is also a great teacher and enjoys facilitating our Childbirth Preparation classes. Emily is also a mother to two energetic sons, both born with midwives. The oldest was born in a hospital and the youngest was born at home. Join us in welcoming Emily to the team!

My Dearest Readers,

It has come to this author’s attention that an event of utmost charm and significance is soon to grace our social calendar. But, pray, do not think this soirée is all lace and lemon cakes. Beneath its refined exterior lies a cause most noble: supporting equitable access to midwifery birth center care.

Attend if you wish to be counted among the enlightened—or stay home, and risk being the subject of my next report!

Birth story time! 📖

Georgia moved to Springfield in 2022 when she was pregnant with her first child. She had received birth center care in McMinnville and knew she wanted to continue her prenatal care with midwives in a birth center setting. Our Community Birth Center was just what Georgia was looking for. “It was super homey,” Georgia recalls of her first impressions of the birth center. “AlexAnn was really professional, and she answered a ton of questions for me.”

Ultimately, Georgia needed to give birth in the hospital because baby Margot was breech (head up). “Even when I transferred care to the hospital, AlexAnn and the team were there for me every step of the way, helping me through the experience and providing above and beyond care for me and my baby during a hard several weeks post-surgery.”

Yesterday, the Our Community Birth Center team put together warming bags for clients of Black Thistle Street Aid.

The birth center partners with Black Thistle Street Aid to provide reproductive heath care to their unhoused clients, including STI testing, birth control management, pregnancy care, and more, during weekly appointments slots that are held specifically for Black Thistle clients. With this collaboration, we are also able to support these clients with transportation to and from their appointments, and provide incentives to make their appointments, including bus passes, gift cards, and food bags.

Additionally, our midwives attend Black Thistle's pop up health care clinics to provide general health care services to the wider unhoused community, including wound care, support with prescriptions and referrals, and more.

This rewarding program has been made possible by the support of Oregon Health Authority and Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
