Hello! My name is Ali Brokenshire, and I am a new Service Coordinator at Lincoln Street. I have spent my career in healthcare and disability advocacy, previously working as an Employment Specialist and Direct Support Professional at HCRS. In these roles, I supported individuals in developing career skills, finding meaningful employment, and achieving greater independence. I’m excited to bring this experience to Lincoln Street and to continue working alongside individuals to help them reach their goals.
On a more personal note, I’ve always been passionate about advocacy, but outside of work, I love getting lost in a good book, playing video games, and spending time with friends and family. I’m always up for a deep dive into fantasy lore or a cozy game night!

Reminder, this special screening event is happening soon. We hope to see you there.

Please join Project SEARCH and DHMC, for a special screening of THE RIDE AHEAD, a documentary by Emmy-Award winning father-son filmmaker duo Dan and Samuel Habib, on March 28 from 4:30-7pm, at DHMC Lebanon in Auditorium E and F. THE RIDE AHEAD follows Samuel Habib, a typical 21-year-old, itching to move out, start a career, and find love. But no one tells you how to be an adult, let alone an adult with a disability. Samuel is determined to avoid the statistical realities: unemployment, isolation, institutionalization. He seeks out wisdom through conversations with disabled mentors: comedian Maysoon Zayid, Americans with Disabilities Act legends Judy Heumann and Bob Williams; Tony-winning wheelchair-using pioneer Ali Stroker; hip-hop artist Keith Jones; autistic, q***r activist Lydia X.Z. Brown; and marathon runner and disability activist Andrew Peterson. Following the screening, Dan and Samuel Habib will conduct a post-film discussion with the audience. The screening and discussion is free and open to the public. Please reach out to Project SEARCH at project.search@hitchcock.org or call 603-650-6439 if you require any accommodations. The film will be shown with open captions and is in a wheelchair accessible venue.

Dan and Samuel will be there in person and will do a Q and A following the movie. If you don’t know who they are you are really in for a treat! Dan and Samuel make some really engaging, thoughtful, and inspiring documentaries.

Hello! My name is Lindsey Carbee, and I am the new Adult Employment Coordinator with Lincoln Street Inc. In my former roles I have assisted young adults with disabilities in higher education as a Peer Mentor with College Steps at Castleton University. I then furthered my interest in supporting those with disabilities while working as a Youth Employment Specialist and Support Staff member with the Vermont Association of Business, Industry and Rehabilitation in both White River and Rutland Vermont. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Sociology and Criminal Justice from Vermont State University at Castleton, formerly Castleton University. Throughout these experiences, I have used my expertise to support those with barriers to employment in exploring career opportunities, finding jobs of interest, and ultimately achieving a meaningful career. Thus, my goal in joining Lincoln Street is to support our population of individuals in striving for higher wage opportunities and breaking the glass ceilings that exist for those with disabilities.

On a more personal level, I was born in New Hampshire but have resided in Vermont for the majority of my life. I currently reside in New Hampshire with my 2-year-old son, fiancé, and two Maine c**n cats: Meatloaf and Oreo. In our spare time, we enjoy day trip vacations to the Boston Aquarium, Montshire Museum and other kid friendly activities within New England. I aspire to one day travel internationally with my family as well as spend time in all 50 U.S. states.

Attention, folks at Lincoln Street!
Look at what Lifelong Learning is offering this semester!
Take a look at our course catalog for exciting offerings! For example, one class teacher is connecting with a civil engineer to learn and teach how ponds and dams are made! Other class teachers are using their personal travels as inspiration for their classes!
Remember, as a Lifelong Learning participant, YOU choose what you learn and teach about. Class topics this semester range from social-emotional skills to civil engineering and plenty of interesting topics in between! Previous semesters have featured classes on various sports, creative writing, self-love, various music genres, and many more.
With an emphasis on community connections, participants of Lifelong Learning attend classes hosted at the River Valley Tech Center and have built a strong relationship with the Springfield Town Library. Lifelong Learning participants have learned new skills at the Springfield Library, such as sewing and Cricut crafts. Lifelong Learning teachers have partnered with community members, such as retired professional baseball players, tattoo artists, and IT teachers to co-teach classes of interest, the sky is the limit!
Lifelong Learning at Lincoln Street, Inc., gives people the opportunity to learn with and teach topics of expertise to their peers and to form connections with community members with similar interests.
We are very thankful for the educational space provided by RVTC for supporting us in adult education!
We are grateful to the Springfield Library for partnering with us on a grant that has enabled our folks to learn, alongside other community members, how to sew and use the Cricut machine!
