Mondays and Tuesdays are big surgery days around here! If you were at our September support group with Dr. Cochran as the guest speaker, then you may recall that our program director, Pam, is having more plastic surgery. Preparing for and does have some similarities!
✅ Hydration is key! Sip, sip, sip on water before and after surgery to stay hydrated, minimize nausea, and improve healing.
✅ Get to moving! Before surgery, move as much and as frequently as possible to be in the best shape you can for surgery. After surgery, walking frequently at a slow, steady pace helps prevent blood clots and constipation.
✅ Protein helps with healing and preserves muscle. After bariatric surgery, you will be on liquids only for a few days. After either surgery, you want to promote healing and make sure you're taking in enough nutrients.
BONUS tip:
Make sure to minimize your risk of infection by taking a shower daily.
Then, the night before surgery, take a shower (make sure to wash your hair too) using half the bottle of Hibiclens (the bottle of pink soap we gave you) to scrub your abdomen top to bottom and front to back. Turn the water off and let that Hibiclens soap sit on your skin for at least two minutes before you rinse it off.
Put on freshly laundered pajamas and sleep on freshly laundered sheets (no germ factories in the bed, including pets or kids.) The next morning, take a second shower just like above, using the other half bottle of Hibiclens. Put on freshly laundered clothes, no lotion, no deodorant, no makeup, that's right, ladies, not even mascara.
From Pam:
My surgery is Tuesday, and I've just kicked everyone out of the bedroom and bathroom. I've washed all the bed linens in Lysol sanitizing detergent and put together my bedside table with meds, lotion, and headphones. Check back here over the next couple of weeks as I'll share more of my along with some photos.
Having bariatric surgery 24 years ago was the best decision for my physical health, and having plastic surgery has been the best decision for my mental health. I can't wait to see you in the office as you progress on your
