Its interactive format features real-life case studies and compelling discussions on current safety issues. EMS Safety is offered as an 8-hour classroom course and is appropriate for all levels of EMS practitioners, other medical professionals providing prehospital patient care, and EMS supervisors and administrators.

EMS Safety is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT.

More details on the class are available on the NAEMT.org website.

A Course Flyer is attached.

With a campus spanning 129 acres, multiple outbuildings and other areas used by students, Hampshire High School definitely has it’s challenges when it comes to responding to a medical emergency on campus. In order to more efficiently respond to these types of calls for help, the staff at the HHS has formed a Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). Our MERT Team consists of three registered nurses, an emergency medical technician, along with several other staff that have a background in emergency response. These responders are assisted by multiple support staff, as well as our First-Aid/ CPR Certified Law Enforcement Interns.

The Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) program provides immediate and temporary care to a seriously ill or injured student/employee while on campus. In many cases, MERT members will respond to an emergency and provide treatment as an individual or as a team. For some, it will be to augment on-staff medical professionals and outside emergency medical personnel (9-1-1).

To assist with this project, Romney Vol. Rescue Squad Chief, Donnie Smith, teamed up with Valley Medical Transport Base Manager, Chris Guynn, to secure and donate a used Stryker EMS Stretcher to the newly formed program. New stretchers of this type are valued at approximately $12,000.00. In addition to the stretcher, Romney Rescue also donated two quick response bags to be used by the team. Capon Bridge Rescue Squad donated a backboard with accompanying supplies, and Augusta Rescue Squad made a donation of medical supplies.

Hampshire High School would like to the thank those community members that helped make this project possible. We are grateful for their service and assistance.
