A year ago, she was on life support. Today, she's back home in Easthampton getting to make new memories with her family.

On Valentine's Day, at just 41 years old, Abby LaBonte experienced a massive heart attack, and then 7️⃣ more on her way to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for a heart transplant. The dedication and persistence of Baystate Medical Center's Emergency Department team kept her alive before, and during, her long journey to Boston. ❤️‍🩹

With a [new] heart full of gratitude, this past October, Abby wanted to meet and thank the care team who saved her life. “Just meeting people I have never met before, people who literally kept me alive until I got to Boston, I will never forget this day... The nurses and doctors really take things to heart, and that means a lot to me." 🫂

A reunion described as "absolutely incredible", "emotional", and "rare", the team was relieved to see how well Abby is doing and how much their work truly matters. "We don’t always get to meet the people we fight for. But when we do, it’s a reminder that every second, every skill, every effort matters." 🩺

🏈 The Big Game is this Sunday! Keep your head in the game with these four tips on managing stress. Be good to your heart and keep your blood pressure down during the game.

• Just breathe. Take several deep breaths. Notice the air going in and out of your diaphragm. While you do this, try repeating a calming phrase or word.

• Walk it off. A short brisk walk may help you release your stress and think more clearly.

• Keep healthy snacks on hand. Eating a variety of healthy foods can supply the nutrients your body needs while you're dealing with stress.

• If you catch yourself lashing out, take a timeout and do something that helps calm you down.
