Health Care Council of Illinois - HCCI

Health Care Council of Illinois - HCCI The Health Care Council of Illinois (HCCI) is the strong, leading voice for nursing home communities across the state.

HCCI strives to bridge the divide between state policy makers and nursing home communities through education and advocacy. Illinois must rein in state spending to solve our financial crisis, but we must protect funding for nursing homes. Holding the line will ensure:

Residents have quality care, food and home-like surroundings. Staff have fair wages and a good work environment. Families can depend on nursing homes to care for their loved ones.

We’re grateful to the Florida Health Care Association not only for the opportunity to attend their outstanding annual conference last week in Orlando, but also for their ongoing support and guidance as HCCI prepares for our first-ever convention.

While at the conference, HCCI’s Cheryl Hahn, Lindsey Hess, and Carrie Impson gained valuable insights on programming, attendee experience, and industry collaboration—insights that will help shape HCCI’s inaugural convention, taking place June 16–18, 2026, at the I Hotel & Illinois Conference Center in Champaign.

We’re excited to build an experience that brings Illinois’ long-term care community together like never before!

"We don't know what D.C. will do, and we don't know how that will impact the state," said Ron Nunziato, HCCI Senior Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs. “If they (Congress makes) cuts to Medicaid, the state could look at all Medicaid providers and make a cut to them,” he said. “They could take more from one pot than they do another. And so, it's deeply troubling to us in this industry.”

Ron Nunziato, the senior director of policy for the Healthcare Council of Illinois, said if cuts to Medicaid go through, it may result in a reduction in the number of low-income seniors they can serve. In the worst-case scenario, he said, some nursing homes will close.

Members of the U.S. Congress continue to show their support for Illinois’ long-term care sector through on-site visits with HCCI members across the state.

Recently, Congressman Darin LaHood visited Bickford of Rockford, while Congressman Sean Casten spent time with residents and staff at Bickford of Tinley Park.

These visits offer valuable opportunities to highlight the daily experiences of residents and the dedicated professionals who care for them. During their time at the facilities, both lawmakers engaged directly with leadership, staff, and residents to learn more about the challenges and priorities in assisted living communities.

HCCI was honored to welcome Congressman Darin LaHood to Heritage Woods of Minooka, an affordable assisted living community managed by Gardant Management Services. He spent time with residents, staff, and leadership, toured the community, and gave them the opportunity to inform him about the significance of the Medicaid waiver program.
