The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences educates the leaders of tomorrow in the health and wellness fields through innovative doctoral programs. Our highly personal educational experience prepares students to be active participants in their role of "Pharmacy Educators" or "Occupational Therapy Leaders," who are focused on the future of their professions. Our cross-disciplinary approach to teaching ensures that you will be educated in the theoretical and practical aspects of your discipline, yet we also promote the development of leadership, professionalism, advocacy, and a commitment to community service. Modeling these ideals is a faculty composed of compassionate practitioners, learned scholars, and caring mentors who teach in our state-of-the-art facilities. Leveraging the broad-based offerings of the University, we are also able to offer combined degrees in collaboration with the College of Business for Pharmacy learners who see their future in leadership roles.

Dr. Charles Caley is part of a research team recently awarded a grant from the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) Foundation. 🎉 With this $250,000 grant award, the AAPP Foundation continues its strong support of the AAPP Outcomes Initiative, funding research that examines the impact of direct patient care provided by board certified psychiatric pharmacists in the treatment of depression. The study—Alternate Prescriber Type–Depression Management (APT-DM): Impact of Psychiatric Pharmacists on Major Depressive Disorder in Primary Care—will be led by Co-Principal Investigators Dr. Nathaniel Rickles (Associate Dean and Professor, UConn School of Pharmacy), Dr. Wilner Samson (Senior Medical Director, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group), and Dr. Charles Caley (Clinical Professor, Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences).

Congratulations to Channel Carde, who presented a research poster at ASHP Midyear 2025 titled From Service to Success: Exploring the Role of Community Service in Shaping Pharmacy Student Professionalism and Career Development, in collaboration with fellow students and faculty mentors.

We’re also proud to share that WNE’s SNPhA chapter was selected as a recipient of the Social Determinants of Health Impact Grant: Empowering Student Health Initiatives. The grant, written by Channel Carde and Taryn Logan, supports the Cub Connections: Roots of Wellness project and reflects the chapter’s strong commitment to community health and service.

ASHP Midyear Clinical Skills Competition!

WNE pharmacy students represented the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at the Clinical Skills Competition during the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. This national competition highlights clinical knowledge, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving, and our students Antonio Russo and Jordan Baker (pictured right to left) did an outstanding job representing WNE on a national stage.

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is proud to recognize Dr. Nicole DeFeo, PharmD, as a recipient of our 2025 Distinguished Young Alumni Award. A 2018 graduate of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, Dr. DeFeo completed a post-doctoral pharmaceutical fellowship in clinical development and medical affairs at Boehringer Ingelheim, where she now serves as Associate Director of Medical Customer Experience and Content Enablement Lead.

Beyond her professional success, Nicole continues to give back through her leadership in Alpha Zeta Omega, where she currently serves as Supreme Signare. Congratulations, Nicole your professional achievements and continued commitment to service are incredible and make us very proud!

🌟 Alumni Spotlight 🌟

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is proud to recognize Dr. Alana Regan, PharmD, BCPP, as a recipient of our 2025 Distinguished Young Alumni Award. A 2016 graduate of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, Dr. Regan went on to complete a psychiatric pharmacy residency before serving as a Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist at McLean Hospital and the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center.

Among the first pharmacists in Massachusetts to administer long acting injectables, Alana continues to lead the way in integrating psychiatric clinical pharmacy services within primary care. She also contributes nationally as a Board of Pharmacy Specialties exam item writer and job analysis panelist for the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists. Congratulations, Alana your dedication to advancing mental health care and pharmacy practice makes WNE proud!

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is proud to recognize Dr. Christy Soverow, PharmD, as a recipient of our 2025 Distinguished Young Alumni Award. A 2018 graduate of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, Christy began her career with CVS Pharmacy, where she excelled as a Pharmacy Manager and dedicated six years to serving her community.

In 2024, Christy took the next step in her professional journey, joining the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Community Care Pharmacist, where she reviews complex medication therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. Congratulations, Christy! Your commitment to patient care and professional excellence continues to make WNE proud.
