OTD students and Dean Amy Burton traveled to Washington, DC to visit legislative offices in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. They researched and advocated for access to occupational therapy services in home care, schools, mental health, and telehealth settings. Way to go! We are so proud!

HUGE NEWS!

For the first time in WNE history, our students have advanced to the Quarterfinal Rounds of the ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge! This means our team will be traveling to the ACCP Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota to compete in person against the best in the country.

And here’s the best part, we are the ONLY College of Pharmacy in the entire Northeast to advance this far!

Rounds will be held in conjunction with the ACCP Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Please join us in cheering on our incredible students as they represent Western New England University on the national stage. 💙💛

Shout out and Congratulations to our WNE Team for the ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge!

For the first time in our history, we have advanced to ROUND 4! We started as 1 of 143 schools and we are now 1 of 16 schools competing for the Quarterfinals.

Our team includes Irina Zivin, Vivian Shi, Jigisha Masani, and Karen LaRocca as the alternate.

The ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge includes a lightning round of trivia (15 questions in 5 minutes), a clinical case with 5 questions (8 minutes), and Jeopardy (5 categories with 3 questions each in 12 minutes)! It is intense and challenging!

Please send congratulations to our team for their competition last Friday night!

Last Tuesday went great for Youth Mental Health Health First Aid Training at SICS. We trained close to 100 individuals. Just wanted to forward the news highlights. Molly Watson from WNE was there as well as the Springfield Republican so perhaps more come.

A mental health first aid training was held for Springfield International Charter School students at Western New England University Tuesday.

Dean Kimberly Pesaturo has been elected Co-Chair of AACP’s Assessment SIG Networking & Mentoring Committee, a role that also brings her onto the Assessment SIG Executive Committee, a national leadership position that helps shape the future of assessment in pharmacy education.

On top of that, she will be serving as Chair of the New England Regional Directors of Assessment group this year, leading important collaborations across our region.

These honors highlight Dean Pesaturo's leadership and commitment to advancing pharmacy education. Congratulations on these well-deserved recognitions!

We are thrilled to celebrate a special milestone within our PharmD community!

One of our newest PY1 DLP students, Kawena Kawelu, recently welcomed her baby. Congratulations to Kawena on this wonderful new chapter!

We also want to take a moment to recognize all of the mothers and fathers in our program who are balancing the rigor of their PharmD education while raising a family. Your dedication, perseverance, and resilience inspire us all.

Dr. Melissa Mattison attended the High Watch Recovery Center's 5K and distributed naloxone kits and education to attendees and participants. Naloxone is a lifesaving medication to reverse opioid overdose and can be a part of your first aid kit. Mattison is a subawardee on a SAMHSA grant to bring naloxone education and distribution to rural areas.

At AACP 2025 in Chicago, WNE was well represented. Courtney Doyle-Campbell shared the wins & challenges of building an online pharmacy pathway with colleagues nationwide.

Melissa Mattison brought global perspective, leading a roundtable on her work in Ghana’s interprofessional clinics.

Western New England University was represented at ACDES 2025 in Phoenix by Katelyn Parsons, who presented “Moving Beyond Technology Champions: Engaging the Team in CGM Initiation and Utilization” on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Her session explored strategies to expand continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to empower the whole team.
