Hi, angels! I hope you’re staying cool as a cucumber this week!! 🥒
This week’s Class Spotlight is on Yin Yoga! This is one of my fave’s to teach - let’s go on a little journey together to learn more about it! 🤗
Yin is an interesting practice - often thought of as "inactive," it's actually quite the opposite from a mental and energetic perspective! Yin Yoga utilizes the Traditional Chinese Medicine system of meridians to target the flow of energy to and through different joints and connective tissue in the body, thereby supporting overall wellness, stress relief, mobility, and flexibility. Much of the practice is done on the floor (no getting up or down off the floor once you're there) with as much prop support as each individual student wants or needs. I love sharing with students which meridians we’re working with, where they run through the body, and why we might be choosing to target them during that practice. 🤓
In Yin, much like Restorative yoga, poses are held for 5-8 minutes and, as yoga teachers like to say, "time is our intensifier..." As we find ourselves able to lean deeper into a stretch or the compression of a joint, for example, we have time to do so and to respond to the body as it shows us what it needs a long the way. It's a truly beautiful, contemplative practice that can leave students feeling more physically and energetically "open." 💪
Yin Yoga at Essential is offered both Tuesdays at 7p AND Thursdays at 9a - no prior yoga experience necessary but an ability to embrace (or challenge oneself to embrace) slowness in the body and mind is helpful. 🙏
We’ve still got spots available for tomorrow morning’s Yin practice and I’d love for you to join us! Head to www.essential-yoga.com/booking to grab a spot. 🤗
