After years of struggling with limited mobility, arthritis, and concerns about being a burden to his family, Michael made the life-changing decision to restart his weight-loss journey in 2024 with the support of our Weight Management Institute and Dr. Fiallo. Now retired and 87 pounds lighter in just eight months, he’s embracing a healthier lifestyle and a renewed sense of self.
“Limited range of motion, having to take a breath before bending down, difficulty even getting dressed. Arthritis in leg and getting weight off of it so I could go to PT. Wanting a healthier body, lifestyle so I can be there for my family and hopefully not be a burden to them in the future.”
Despite initial fears and misinformation, he found the courage to move forward—and hasn’t looked back.
“When I awoke after surgery, I'll be honest, if didn't have four scars on my stomach, I wouldn't have believed they had done anything to me. I never had any pain, discomfort. I had picked up about 10 meds before the surgery and never had to take any of them.”
His journey has brought physical, emotional, and mental transformation.
“The most wonderful change is range of motion! I can bend over in the garden and can breathe, endurance is much better. I can go to shop off the rack for clothes and not big and tall. My wife likes to dress me up and show me off now.”
And his advice to others considering weight-loss surgery?
“If you plan on hitting the drive thru for a burger on your way home from surgery, Don't waste their or your time. You have to follow their instructions, and it will be a total lifestyle change… I myself now regret that I didn't go through with this years ago, but, it's wasn't too late for me.”
We’re proud to be part of his journey toward better health and grateful he chose Trinity Health Of New England. Take the assessment to learn if you might be a candidate for weight loss surgery at https://bit.ly/4bKDfZ9

Today is GivingTuesday, the world's largest day of generosity. We invite you to join the movement by making a gift to the Health Care for the Homeless fund. Your donation, no matter the size, will have a powerful impact on the lives of our vulnerable neighbors facing food insecurity and limited access to health care.
We believe that "everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts." During this season of giving, we hope you will consider being a part of this celebration of kindness and compassion.
Join us online on Monday, December 1 at 5pm for Embrace Life: An Information Session about Weight Management. Our expert panel of bariatric professionals will be answering the most common questions about weight loss, weight management and bariatric surgery options.

Did You Know?
Hiatal hernias are common among people who are candidates for weight loss surgery—and they can make symptoms like acid reflux worse. The good news? If you’re considering bariatric surgery, your surgeon can often repair a hiatal hernia during the same procedure. That means fewer surgeries and a smoother recovery.
