Bernard Louis Grubaugh

Bernard (Bernie) Louis Grubaugh, passed away on December 9, 2025, in his home in Willard, Missouri. He was born to Benjamin and Martha Grubaugh on February 14, 1938, in Wellfleet, Nebraska. He was the youngest of 11, eight boys and three girls.

Bernie was a graduate of Steelville High School, class of 1956. He was a man of many careers. He joined the Air Force right out of high school (‘56-’60). After his term of enlistment ended, he settled in Peru, Indiana with his lifelong love Linda. He married the love of his life, Linda (née Thomas) Grubaugh on June 28, 1959. After getting married, Bernie and Linda hardly spent time apart. In 1960, they had their beloved son, David, Sr., then their life led them to California in 1962, where he started his employment with Honeywell. In 1965, they had their cherished daughter, Teresa. He continued his career with Honeywell for 32 years.

After retiring from Honeywell, in true Bernie fashion, he got bored and decided to work as a machinist till 1995, when they moved to Oklahoma. Together Bernie worked with family to build a lake house. After the house was finished, he continued to enjoy retired life. Even though fishing was his passion in retirement, Bernie found his way back into a machine shop in Oklahoma until 2013. At that time he retired again and moved to Willard, Missouri where he would live out the rest of his days.

Bernie was a man of many interests. Including any sports, fishing, tinkering, riding the mower, and especially his family (and anyone else’s family if they’d let him). His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He truly lived life to the fullest of its potential. Together Bernie and Linda traveled the country and created endless memories. After moving to Missouri, they found their way forging more family connections than they thought possible through hockey.

Preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Martha (née McKellips); nine of his siblings and their spouses (Nellie, Anna, Henry, Dolly, Matt, Wayne, Benny, Earl and Don); his son, David Grubaugh Sr.; son-in-law, Dave Houston; and his grandson, Colby Houston. He is survived by his brother Bill; wife, Linda Grubaugh; daughter, Teresa Houston; his grandchildren, Brett (Mackenzie) Houston, David (Jessica) Grubaugh Jr., Summer Grubaugh; son’s remarried widow, Lorri (John) Grubaugh Barber and a multitude of nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Services to honor Bernard’s life will be held on December 13, 2025, from 2-5 pm at the Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E Walnut, Springfield, MO 65806. Burial will be at a later date.

Bernie will be deeply missed, but the warmth and joy he brought to others will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Ruby Rexene Worrell M.D.

Our wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Ruby Rexene Worrell M.D., passed away at home on November 25, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri, following a long battle with cancer. She was 70 years old and beloved by many.

Ruby (aka “Rex”) lived an inspiring and fearless life. She was born in 1955 to Artie Jane Denny and Howard Worrell. She attended Sheridan Highschool in Denver, Colorado and completed her Bachelor of Science at Metropolitan State University of Denver, after which she attended Ross University School of Medicine. On the path to fulfilling her lifelong and hard-earned dream of becoming a physician, she became one of the first female paramedics in the country at Denver General Hospital in the early 1970’s, blazing a trail for women in emergency medicine. She completed her residency in forensic pathology at Cook County Hospital and later served as a medical examiner for both Las Vegas and Nye County, Nevada and was the Medical Examiner of Mohave County Arizona for over a decade. Ruby loved being a forensic pathologist, a calling which she believed allowed her to speak for those who could no longer do so. During her incredible career, she gave a voice to many, investigating thousands of deaths and playing a critical role in solving a multitude of homicides.

Ruby had an exuberance for life and was serious about enjoying it. She was an avid scuba diver, roller blader, tennis player, an erstwhile motorcyclist, and even enjoyed the occasional round of golf. She was an adventurous global traveler, never missing a chance to explore the world, once flying to Canada and back in less than 24 hours just to see her favorite flautist in concert. It would be hard to name her favorite place, but she particularly loved Portugal, France, and the island of Dominica where she lived for several years.

She was also an incredibly talented artist with a diverse range of interests. She played both flute and piano, was an award-winning quilter, stained glass artist, and loved gourmet cooking, knitting, bird watching, and gardening. Among her greatest joys were her beloved pups, Bailey, Abby, Norman, Leah, and Penne.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Eric A. Dondich, daughters Joanna Myers (Nathan Lawrence) and Kara Bilstein, stepsons Taylor Dondich and James Klob (C.J. Klob), her siblings, Dennis Simpson (Dianne Senter), Edwin P. Simpson III (Darlene Brandt), Earl Simpson, Larry Worrell, Jerry “Travis” Worrell (Eve Worrell), J.D. “Judd” Sawyer, Connie Mooney, and her grandchildren Mateo Dondich, Gabriel Dondich, Anthony Dondich, and Emilia “Millie” Dondich, dearest friends Herb Myers, Ben and Gigi Lish, Joy and Lee Kimzey, Vivian Terbeek, and Rory Palmeri, and many more loving aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends that are too numerous to name but cherished by Ruby and her family.

A celebration of life will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 21, 2026, from 12:00-3:00pm at Gaetano’s Restaurant 10271S Eastern Ave #111, Henderson, NV 89052. All friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate the life and memory of Ruby Rexene Worrell M.D., an extraordinary woman.

God looked around his garden

And found an empty place,

He then looked down upon the earth

And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you

And lifted you to rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful

He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering

He knew you were in pain.

He knew that you would never

Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough

And the hills were hard to climb.

So he closed your weary eyelids

And whispered, ‘Peace be Thine’.

It broke our hearts to lose you

But you didn’t go alone,

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

Mary Anne Beck

Mary Anne Beck was born in September 1940 at the Springfield Osteopathic Hospital but within a few days was being royally escorted to my home at Wells Farm outside of Republic in the town hearse driven by my granddad R. E. Thurman, the town undertaker. My parents were Linzee and Daphne Thurman Wells; my grandparents were Joshua Gardner and Sue Linzee Wells and Robert Ellis and Anna Godwin Thurman, lovingly known as “Ponna.” With my sister Linda Louise and brother Donald Linzee, I grew up on Wells Farm and attended Republic schools, then went to Drury College and graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in history, causing a certain amount of flak from the family when the yellow Trivial Pursuit questions were missed. In time I met the love of my life and my best friend Dale Edward Beck in Kansas City, and we spent the next joyful 58 years together, crowned by the births of our three sons, Joseph Edward (Catherine), Robert Thomas (Sarrah Cantrell) and Jeffrey Dale (Leigh Ann) as well as our two extraordinary granddaughters Chloe McKay Beck and Charlotte Anne Beck.

After our sons were a bit older I went to work at the National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company, where I made lifelong friends and co-founded the Pig Out Recreation Club, which I served faithfully as Notice Chairman. I moved to Rockhurst University for the next 20-plus years, where I did secretarial and administrative jobs and produced the Rockhurst Daily News, ending as Assistant to the President.

During those wonderful years I enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing and performing on the flute, cooking and eating and raising our boys. Wells Farm was always a focus of our lives and the scene of countless gatherings – Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas. We were also able to do some wonderful traveling in Europe with some of our best friends.

After retirement Dale and I returned to Wells Farm where we renovated the old farm house and moved in for the next 25 years. During those great years I enjoyed Nosegay Garden Club, St. Bernadette’s Guild, and card playing dates with friends at SEAS, but especially the Republic Historical Society’s activities. In 2008 I survived pancreatic cancer, having surgery which gave me another 17 years of life.

In addition to our immediate family, I am survived by my brother, Donald Linzee Wells (Pam) and their sons Joshua (Jamie), Jason (Carlie) and Jonathan, a brother in law, Roger William Leonard and his sons Michael and Eric (Nancy) and their families, a cousin, Kathleen Sailors (Bob), my Thurman cousins, as close as siblings – Bob and Dorothy, Tom and Libby and their very special children, and of course the vast, crazy and loving Beck-Johnson family who took me in as one of their own and loved me no matter what. You all are incredible.

There is a lot of love in the world, and I have received a lot of it.

A Memorial Mass for Mary Anne will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church: 2200 W. Republic Rd., Springfield, MO 65807, with Father Thomas Kiefer celebrating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to the American Civil Liberties Union, the Republic Historical Society, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, Inc.

Brenda Faye Gozia

Brenda Faye (Kyte) Gozia, 79, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on November 16, 2025, at home with her family, following a short illness. Born on April 16, 1946, in Carthage, MO, Brenda was the daughter of Lawrence and Mildred Kyte. She grew up in Joplin, Missouri, graduating from Joplin High School.

Brenda and her family relocated to Texas in 1970. Between 1972 and 1977, she welcomed four children, dedicating herself as a volunteer to support all their activities—from serving as a Girl Scout Leader and PTA President to cheering from the sidelines of baseball, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, swim team, and cheerleading events. Brenda was always the loudest supporter, first for her children and later for her grandchildren. Along the way, she also became a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, donning her Cowboys blue with unwavering hope and good-natured humor, always declaring, “This is our year!” Through every season—win or, more often, lose—her spirited allegiance sparked laughter and lively debates among family and friends.

In 1992, Brenda made Springfield, Missouri her home, where she embraced new opportunities and friendships. Committed to learning and growth, Brenda went back to school and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1997 and her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1999, both from Southwest Missouri State University. Upon graduating, Brenda followed her passion and spent her career working with children and adolescents at Lakeland Behavioral Health System, an established psychiatric hospital and treatment center in Springfield, where her kindness and empathy touched many lives. She worked there full-time until her retirement, leaving a legacy of support and encouragement for colleagues and clients alike.

In her later years, Brenda found joy each morning sitting on her porch swing, sipping coffee while admiring her growing vegetables and dreaming up new flower arrangements to plant next. She cherished her visits to Pineville, Missouri, where time spent along the Elk River brought back fond memories of family trips throughout her life. For the past two decades, Brenda’s week wouldn’t have been complete without gathering for lunch or happy hour with her Friday 5 friends, sharing stories and making treasured memories together.

Brenda’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her love for her family and many of her very close friends. Her kindness, wisdom, and humility will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mildred Kyte. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Kevin Weiss, of Dallas, TX; her daughter Erin Gozia, of Springfield, MO; her sons, Hayes Gozia and Bob Gozia, of Springfield, MO; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and her brother and sister-in-law, Brent and Phyllis Kyte.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri with Pastor Gary Griffin officiating. Visitation will follow the Funeral Service at the Funeral Home. The family invites attendees to wear comfortable, casual attire.
