HOPE

News reports on the current opioid crisis occur almost daily, sometimes multiple times a day. The statistics surrounding this epidemic are staggering and no one is immune. Our families, friends, co-workers, and communities are all affected by these tragedies in more ways than we realize. The CDC reports that from the years 2000 - 2016, an estimated 600,000 people died from overdoses; that is an average of 115 people per day. While this is a very somber statistic, Gateway Foundation believes that there is HOPE.

One of the major obstacles that individuals face when completing a treatment program is being able to obtain safe, affordable housing in which to rebuild their lives and continue in their recovery. Recovery homes offer this secure environment for people while also providing accountability for the occupants that reside there. The residents are required to obtain employment, continue ongoing treatment, attend support meetings, and obtain a sponsor as well as to participate in other activities that support recovery.

Gateway Foundation and our participants remain successful because of the continued community support of our vision to see individuals remain healthy. From this seed an idea was bloomed that through a recovery support project, we could fulfill the need for resources from which this population could draw to begin anew. With your 5K participation and/or donor partnership, we will be able to reduce barriers that often impede the success of those in the process of re-entering the community. The Gateway Foundation - Central Illinois Region HOPE 5k is one way that we will support individuals who are committed to living a healthier lifestyle and rebuilding their lives by choosing to reside within a recovery home/community.

It is our sincere hope that you would consider participating in this endeavor by registering to run/walk, sponsoring a runner/walker, or a making a donation to this worthy cause.
