August is NATIONAL WELLNESS MONTH! Throughout the month we will be sharing some tips on staying healthy and well. First and most importantly, let's talk about breath. It is the most natural thing our body does, completely without thought. When we get stressed, anxious, worried, fearful, the first thing to get off track is our breath. This causes the pulse to rise, the heart to race or skip beats, the nerves are triggered into fight, flight or freeze, muscles clench, memory and focus slip, digestion hit road blocks like bloating, and the immune system becomes compromised leading to major health concerns. Basically, your body needs oxygen not just to be alive but to properly function.
Regain your breath, calm the nervous system and reset through a very simple method, counting. Here's how:
1. Inhale for 3 counts.
2. HOLD for 5 counts
3. Exhale for 6 counts
4. repeat as needed..
