With Christmas coming up, it’s a great time to think about how the toys we buy can impact our kids’ eyes.

When you’re shopping, look for toys that encourage focusing at different distances like building sets, balls, art supplies, or anything that gets them looking up and around instead of only down at a screen.

It also helps to choose toys that match your child’s age and coordination level, so nothing shoots, snaps, or launches in a way that could accidentally injure an eye.

If you’re grabbing anything with bright lights, just make sure it’s not overly intense or shining directly into their face for long periods.

Our children’s eyes are more vulnerable to screen time than ours, yet they often spend hours on tablets, phones, and computers. Too much close-up screen time can contribute to eye strain, headaches, and even increase the risk of nearsightedness.

𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:
✔️ Encourage outdoor play. Natural daylight is vital for healthy eye development.
✔️ Limit close-up screen time and teach kids to take regular breaks using the 20-20-20 rule.
✔️ Make sure your kids have an annual eye exam, even if they have no complaints.

Healthy habits start early and can set them up for a lifetime of good vision.

Zoom fatigue is real. So is eye fatigue. 👀

Screens are changing the way we see. They affect the way we blink, strain the tear film, and quietly drain our comfort over time.

If you’re working from a screen all day, your eyes need a routine too. Make sure you're consciously blinking often, and working in soft, even lighting. Dark rooms and harsh overhead lights can throw your pupils into overdrive, causing constant adjustment and eye fatigue.
