Earlier this summer, we reached a new all-time high of patients served. In celebration of all the hard work of our teams, we asked them to vote on the leader they would most like to see in a dunk tank. Sunday Watson, Regional Vice President of Operations for our Central offices earned that spot, and last week we learned that while none of us would be moving onto the MLB, we had a great time throwing a few baseballs and giving her a good soaking.

Thank you, Caris partners for all of your hard work!

Congratulations to Iva Biggs, RN, from the Springfield office for passing the CHPN exam.

The first Registered Nurse certification exam was offered in 1994 and awarded the use of the credential CRNH (Certified Registered Nurse Hospice) to those successfully passing the exam. In 1999, the examination was expanded to include palliative care, and successful candidates are now awarded the credential CHPN® (Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse). Currently, there are nearly 12,000 nurses who hold the CHPN® credential. HPCC is the only organization that offers specialty certification for all levels of hospice and palliative care professionals. Each certification is valid for a four-year period, at which time the professional may renew their credential.

Please congratulate Iva on this accomplishment and her efforts to continue to demonstrate her professional commitment to safe, ethical, and evidence-based end-of-life care.

During visits with our patient he referred to himself as "Hollywood" and staff caught on to that name. He had a simple request when asked about the nickname, he wanted a pair of sunglasses. When our hospice aide showed up with a new pair of sunglasses he immediately put them on and had to show off. Hollywood is now ready for the big time!

Grief doesn’t always begin with goodbye. 💜

During Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, we recognize the emotional weight of ambiguous loss—the kind that begins when memory fades but a loved one remains physically present. For many adult children, caring for a parent with dementia brings a unique kind of heartache. You are not alone.
