Our annual reunion of all of our NICU graduates and their families is coming up Oct. 5 from 3-5 p.m. at our main hospital, and we can't wait to see you all soon!

Our Toy Story theme last year was a big hit, and this year is all about candied colored fun — think sprinkles, lollipops, gumdrops and more.

To RSVP, just visit mercy.net/SweetReunion

The adorable Damian Walker is not quite the largest baby to be born at our hospital, but he's awfully close. The not-so-little Damian came into this world weighing 12 pounds, 5 ounces, and after some time in our NICU, Damian and his family are headed home. 💙

Happy Mercy Day!

On this date 198 years ago, our founder, Catherine McAuley, opened the doors of the first House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland, with a school for local children. Her dedication to care for those in need led her to open a hospital and begin the Sisters of Mercy.

Almost 200 years later, the Sisters' legacy and mission is still going strong. We hosted our caregiver awards last night (more photos to come!), and we got to celebrate and honor our team members that consistently go above and beyond for our patients and for each other. It's an honor to be part of the mission Catherine and the Sisters of Mercy started so many years ago.

Cooler weather means we're about to hit prime hiking season, so keep your eyes peeled for snakes and know what to do if you're bitten.

• Seek medical attention.
• Keep the limb elevated if possible.

Also! Please don't bring us the snake. Even if you think that Tupperware cage is strong enough to keep the snake at bay, please leave the snake in the wild. We treat all snake bites based on your symptoms, so it's okay if you don't know what kind of snake bit you. We've got you covered.

We had a great week celebrating our EVS, laundry and transport teams that keep our hospitals and clinics clean, safe and running smoothly.

We have a lot of quotes from our founder Catherine McAuley that help guide us as we care for patients, and this group exemplifies one of our favorite quotes from her: "We must strive to do ordinary things extraordinarily well."

Thank you to every caregiver on our EVS, laundry and transport teams for always going above and beyond and making it possible to care for our patients.

This is Elias, and he's helping us spread the word that we're hosting a Band Aid Drive all of September.

We know kids don't enjoy having to come see us, and they really don't like getting shots. Sometimes we can ease their discomfort and anxiety just a bit by offering them a fun and colorful band aid. Not only does it make them feel a little better, it's a fun way to show off their bravery.

So if you want to donate a box (or two) or fun band aids, you can drop them off at the hospital at the Catherine's Corner Gift Shop or the Main Gift Shop.

The science center at Drury just got a new name! We are honored to partner with Drury to train the next generation of health care professionals, researchers and scientists, and Dr. Sohrab said it best:

“Mercy serves as one of the largest clinical training sites for Drury, and we take our role as educator and mentor seriously. We know the students our providers train will soon be tasked with caring for our patients and our community, and it is a privilege to be part of their educational journey.”

The first team member from Children's Mercy has arrived on our campus!

Please give a big welcome to Debbie Schwartzkopf, who will serve as interim chief administrative officer of our joint venture with Children's Mercy.

This is a significant step forward as we team up with Children's Mercy to expand access to specialized, pediatric care in southwest Missouri, and we can't wait to start showing Debbie around town.

Thank you to all of our visitors and caregivers who have sent us some fantastic photos of our exterior lights at night.

You might have noticed we've changed the colors to blue and yellow in honor of our friends at Children's Mercy who are helping us bring award-winning pediatric care to kids across southwest Missouri.

This week started off with some much-deserved praise to several of our caregivers. Springfield Business Journal announced its 2025 list of Health Care Champions, and four of our own caregivers made the list. We can't wait to celebrate them soon.

On top of that, our MSU Care Clinic is also on the list and is recognized as one of this year's three winning Health Care Organizations.

Our MSU Care Clinic focuses on providing primary care services to underserved patients in Springfield, and we're so thankful to our caregivers and community partners that make this clinic so impactful to those who need it.

At Mercy’s recent Accommodation for Success event, we turned the tables with a reverse job fair that celebrated these unique strengths. The day also featured practical sessions on inclusive hiring and training, along with powerful first-hand stories from a lived-experience panel. We brought together workforce boards, disability support agencies and inclusive employers for a day of learning, connection and inspiration!

Getting screened for prostate cancer may not be comfortable — but it can save your life. 💙

Mercy caregiver Kim Henderson knows this firsthand. When her uncle's screening came back positive, her father and her other uncle got screened and came back positive, as well. All three got surgery and gained more precious years with the people they love.

Screenings aren’t just about you — they’re about your family, your friends and everyone who would love more time with you.

Do it for the ones you love. Get screened.

Hospitals are filled with moments of healing and hope, but sometimes those moments come from the community itself. A new family was surprised with an anonymous gift of baby essentials and words of encouragement, a simple gesture that made a lasting impact!

Born at just 22 weeks, Vivien's journey began with uncertainty and heartbreak after the loss of her twin brother. Through every scare and setback in the NICU, her parents never stopped pouring love and hope into her. Today, she's a charismatic 8-year-old with a story that inspires.

Vivien's mom, Stephanie, shares: "We weren’t just another patient, we could tell that everyone truly cared! We felt more like family by the care and love that was provided. We only have the doctors and nurses to thank for not giving up on her or us! She is now 8 years old with no physical deficits!"

We are looking for volunteers to drive the cutest patient shuttle in town.

We need drivers to help out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. What does this electric shuttle do, you ask? Great question!

Our drivers help give patients a lift to wherever they're headed on our hospital campus. Whether they're headed from their car to our hospital entrance or the surgery center or one of our campus clinics, our drivers make life a little easier for patients.

If you want to learn more (about joining our team of volunteer drivers or volunteering in general) email Jennifer.elswick@mercy.net.

P.S.: Our volunteer drivers picked up 7,800 riders last year!

It is not hard to find caregivers who remember Dr. Wade Shipman and his commitment to patients and his contagious zest for life. Each year, we honor Dr. Shipman's legacy of caring for others by awarding two team members with the DASH Award.

We like to say Dr. Shipman "lived his dash," so this award is presented by Mercy Health Foundation and the Dr. Wade Shipman Endowment committee. This year we recognized two caregivers who are hard-working, positive, caring and compassionate, while living their DASH: every single day.

Congratulations to Ashley Wilson who manages our child life services and to Cindy Bowers who is an office coordinator in our operating rooms.

Mercy unequivocally condemns all violence and violent rhetoric. Our prayers are with Charlie Kirk’s family and loved ones after today’s horrifying act of violence.

Tonight, we were made aware of unacceptable statements made by a social media user whose profile says she’s a nurse at Mercy. We reviewed our employee records and can confirm this person does not, and has never, worked at Mercy. Mercy would never tolerate any employees celebrating violence, which would be a clear violation of not only our employee policies but also our mission as a healing ministry of Jesus.

Some of our patients and their families had a night to remember at the St. Louis Cardinals Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game recently. From stepping onto the field before the first pitch to meeting players up close, the evening was filled with joy, courage and unforgettable memories.

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating a milestone that will shape health care in Oklahoma for years to come. Thanks to a new gift of nearly $4 million from The Meinders Foundation, the late Herman Meinders is now Mercy’s largest individual donor in history.

Of this incredible contribution, $3 million will expand the Meinders Center for Movement Disorders, and $700,000 will bring advanced, minimally invasive technology for lung biopsies to our patients.

Friends, family and Mercy caregivers gathered to honor this legacy, including the namesakes for the new Robert H. Meinders and Linda Meinders Drumm Neurology Clinic, which is on the third floor of the Meinders NeuroScience Institute.

Since 2018, Herman and LaDonna Meinders - who both passed away in the past year - have given more than $24 million. Their generosity leaves a legacy of hope and healing across Oklahoma.
