🚨 TAKE ACTION 🚨

Nine U.S. states are suing the federal government to challenge the integration mandate—a vital protection that allows people with disabilities to receive services in their communities rather than being forced into institutions.

If this lawsuit succeeds, it could roll back decades of progress and force people with disabilities into institutional settings against their wishes.

šŸ‘‰ Speak up. Contact your state and federal legislators and tell them you support community-based services and disability civil rights.
šŸ‘‰ Share this post to help spread awareness.
šŸ‘‰ Stand with the disability community by defending the right to live, work, and thrive in the community.

The disability community fought hard for these rights—and we must fight to protect them. Community inclusion is a right, not a privilege. šŸ’™

After cutting $45 million from children’s programs last year, Oregon legislators are now considering even more cuts.

Tell them: NO MORE CUTS!!

A public hearing on the state budget will be held Tuesday, February 3, from 5:00–8:00 p.m., and legislators need to hear directly from you.

Cutting funding for early learning and family supports has long-lasting consequences — harming children’s development, destabilizing families, and weakening the early educator workforce. Our kids and communities deserve better.

Take action today by submitting your testimony through the link below — your voice matters.

Over time, the words ā€˜retardation’ and ā€˜retarded’ became hurtful and mean. Our organization changed its name to ā€œThe Arcā€ in 1992 instead of ā€œThe ARCā€ (Association for Re****ed Citizens of the United States) to use respectful language that people with disabilities prefer. Now, we use terms like ā€œintellectual disabilityā€ and ā€œdevelopmental disabilityā€ instead. We work hard to make sure everyone uses these terms and love to share our knowledge with others.

Medicaid has been there at every stage of River’s life. From a months-long NICU stay to the therapies and equipment he needs today. Stories like this help show lawmakers what Medicaid means for families. If Medicaid has played a role in your life or the life of someone you love, share your story. Your experience helps show why these supports must be protected.

95% of students with disabilities attend public schools. When public education works, it can change the course of someone’s life.

As a former special education student, Kristen knows firsthand how a strong public education can shape a person’s future. She credits her Individualized Education Program (IEP) team and family for helping her meet her goals and graduate high school, something that might not have been possible without that support.

School didn’t just help Kristen graduate. It helped her learn how to advocate for herself; a skill she still uses today.

Now, as an adult, Kristen advocates for reinvesting in public education so that every student, with or without disabilities, has the same opportunity to succeed.

ā€œThis is not the time to take money from public schools, but rather to put more money into public schools and services so all students have the opportunity to achieve their goals and reach their full potential, like I was given.ā€

Kristen’s story is a reminder of what’s at stake when public schools and special education services are underfunded. Support in school doesn’t just help students get through the day. It helps shape their futures.

Share this to help more people understand why public education matters.

Students with disabilities have the right to a free, appropriate public education. That right is protected by federal law and enforced by the U.S. Department of Education.

Right now, those protections are being threatened.

This means families could lose a place to turn when schools do not follow the law. Educators could lose access to clear guidance and experts who help them meet their students’ needs. And students with disabilities could lose the critical supports they need to succeed.

That is why we have joined a federal lawsuit to stop the dismantling of the Department of Education and defend students’ rights.

Add your name to our petition to demand that the federal government protect the educational rights of students with disabilities.
