Today staff joined The Arc of the Quad Cities Area President & CEO Michael Glanz to provide testimony to the House Appropriations Health & Human Services Committee in support of increased funding for DSP wages in the Illinois Department of Human Services proposed state budget.

Michael Glanz, The Arc's President/CEO, was in the state capital today speaking on behalf of The Arc of the Quad Cities Area and other providers of disability services in the State of Illinois. He spoke in support of the Governor's proposed budget of a $0.60 per hour wage increase for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and support for the implementation of the CILA rate methodology.

The proposed wage increase is a meaningful step toward fairly compensating DSPs, and the rate methodology would allow providers to stabilize services and better align funding with the real needs of people with disabilities.

Michael said, "Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of our system. They provide the daily, hands-on support that allows people to live, work, and fully participate in their communities."

Advocacy like this helps ensure that individuals with disabilities and the dedicated professionals who support them are seen, valued, and given the resources they need. The Arc of the Quad Cities Area remains committed to standing alongside our partners across Illinois to push for sustainable funding and a stronger, more inclusive system of care.

Transparency on the rules and interpretive guidance that govern the provision of services and supports in group homes just makes plain sense. State Representative Kevin Olickal and Senator Adriane Johnson get it.

HB 4884/ SB 3714 is good for persons with disabilities and the organizations that are entrusted to serve and support them.
