Happy International Women in Engineering Day!

All this week we have celebrated the fantastic women who work with us at our UK location.

Today we would like to highlight a few of the ways we at work.

Our clean room processes are in place to ensure both staff and patients are safe during the manufacture and use of the final product.

In stores, we manage the goods in and out of the site, and the constant stream of items must be tracked and processed efficiently.

During the design process, we use our tissue labs to test product quality and ensure product and user safety.

A visible integration milestone was achieved last week with the ATL Technology corporate identity being unveiled at the recent acquisition of Gyrus Medical Limited in the UK.

The facility in Cardiff houses two Class 8 clean rooms, and a Capital Goods manufacturing facility.

Our highly skilled engineering team is supported by the Prototyping Centre, 3D Lab, a Process Technology Centre, Moulding Centre, and Machining Centre.

This supports our engineers to fail fast, learn fast, & improve fast.

One major challenge with designing and manufacturing wearable medical devices is that they must be flexible and durable enough to withstand wear and tear from being worn on the body.

Flex assemblies, also known as flexible printed circuit boards or flexible printed circuits (FPCs), solve this problem.

FPCs offer 360-degree bendability, allowing them to be developed to mimic human contours.

They also have a reduced number of connection points compared to traditional PCBs, which helps reduce the possibility of interconnection defects, overall increasing the device’s reliability.

On top of these benefits, FPCs can also withstand a wide temperature range, making them suitable for harsh conditions inside and outside the body.

These, among other factors, allow FPCs to withstand the daily wear and tear that comes with using a medical wearable device, making FPCs s a crucial component of modern wearable medical devices today.
