Blue Ridge Regional Hospital

Blue Ridge Regional Hospital We exist to identify and respond to the health and wellness needs of the region, partnering with pati That's the plain English version.

Located in the mountain town of Spruce Pine, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital believes that family-centered care is the best approach to meeting our patients’ needs. Continually delivering exceptional care, we understand that it takes a combination of modern medicine and technology, compassionate attention to detail and expertly applied knowledge to reach the best possible medical outcomes. Every staff member at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital is dedicated to this approach. We combine patient-centered care with modern medicine, advanced technology, compassion, and care provided by loved ones to reach our ultimate goal—to provide the best care and outcomes for patients. 💙 Celebrating the Heart of Our Community: National Nurses Week

This National Nurses Week, we are spotlighting the incredible nursing team at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. These dedicated professionals are the heart of everything we do, providing expertise and compassion to our patients every single day.

Join us in celebrating three of our amazing nurses whose stories reflect the true power of nursing:

• Kristi Lankford, RN (Nurse Manager of Surgical Services): With 23 years of experience across Mission Health, Kristi’s career has spanned from oncology to the operating room. For her, nursing is about being a source of strength and truly listening to patients during their most vulnerable moments.

• Sherri Fender, LPN (Specialty Clinic): A staple of the Yancey County community, Sherri has spent 27 years building lasting relationships with her patients. Whether she’s easing nerves with a joke or helping a mother safely to her car—an act that earned her a DAISY Award—she proves that small acts of kindness make the biggest impact.

• Sarah Griffith, RN (Case Manager): Sarah navigates the complex world of discharge planning and patient resources with unwavering dedication. From acting as a lifeline for patients during COVID-19 to supporting the community through Hurricane Helene, Sarah finds her purpose in being there when people need help the most.

We are so proud of the tight-knit team we have here. Please help us honor Kristi, Sherri, Sarah, and our entire nursing staff!

🎙️ On Air with WTOE/WKYK Radio

Our CEO/CNO, Dr. Tonia W. Hale, recently joined Bruce to discuss National Stress Awareness Month and the ways Blue Ridge Regional Hospital supports both our staff and the community. Dr. Hale highlighted how internal initiatives like "shout outs" and workplace wellness programs directly translate into a safer, better experience for our patients.

Beyond the hospital walls, she encouraged everyone to take advantage of our beautiful local mountains to meet physical activity goals, emphasizing that diet and exercise are vital tools for managing the impacts of stress. Thank you to Bruce and the WTOE team for helping us lead the charge in community wellness!
