We are not meant to heal alone. As the late, great Sue Johnson said, "splendid isolation is for planets, not people."

That's why we run therapy groups for kids, teens and adults-because healing happens faster when we realize we're not the only ones carrying heavy feelings.

A big thank you to the Lake Saint Louis Mom’s Club for inviting Step By Step Counseling to have a table at your event yesterday (Sunday)!

Tammie, Becky and Quay enjoyed their time. We as an office, are so grateful for the chance to connect with families in our community. Opportunities like this remind us how important it is to build relationships, share resources, and support one another. We appreciate the warm welcome and look forward to continuing to grow together.

Self-harm ≠ Su***de.

Sometimes people hurt themselves not because they want to die, but because they don’t know how else to cope. But both self-harm and suicidal thoughts are cries for help that deserve support.

Hope is real. Help is here.

Our DBT skills groups teach practical tools in a safe place with peers who understand. Visit our website to learn more about our groups for both teens and adults. 🔗 in bio.

Good news! We have Becky back for internship!

Becky Morawiec spent her student practicum with us and we're delighted to have her joining us for her graduate school internship. She works well with both children and adults and her clients can expect a calm, collaborative space, free of judgement, to identify goals and grow coping skills.

Like all student counselors, she is supervised by both her school and a licensed therapist in our office.

Head to our website to find more information about our Stepping Stones Program or to request an appointment!

Research shows that just one caring relationship can reduce su***de risk.

That’s why we offer family & couples sessions. Because prevention isn’t just about the child, it’s about strengthening the bond between families, too.

When two child therapists have a 10-minute break between sessions, what do they do?

A) Write notes
B) Drink caffeine
C) Have a full-on hula hoop showdown outside

Spoiler: It’s definitely C.

Because sometimes regulation looks like giggles, spinning in circles, and seeing who can keep the hoop up the longest before gravity wins. 😂

We always tell kids that play helps the brain reset… turns out, grown-up brains need the same thing too.

So if you hear laughter echoing through the neighborhood don’t worry—it’s just your therapists practicing what we preach. 💙

Children might not use the word “su***de,” but they show us in their behavior — withdrawing, saying “I wish I wasn’t here,” or acting out in scary ways.

Our IOP for ages 5–11 and social skills groups help kids learn safe ways to express what’s inside and connect with others who understand. 🔗in bio to find more info about our SPARK IOP. Healing starts young....hope can too.

Our Story

The office of Step By Step Counseling was founded in 2009 by Jennie Wilson and over the years has slowly expanded. As the need for mental health services in the community continued to grow, the office moved and expanded into the current location in 2013. Our current space allows us to accommodate more therapists and offer more services. Jennie envisioned that the therapists would operate not just as a and multidisiplinary team but as an indiciplinary team. She wanted this model when delivering services to clients because interdisiplinary teams build on each other’s expertise and allow for consultation. There’s an opportunity for more than one clinician to work with a family when needed (one client might be utilizing different services with different clinicians).

Step by Step Counseling’s vision was (and still is) to create a counseling resource that serves the community by offering different specialties and services to a wide range of clientele. As you will notice, therapists or clinicians employed with Step By Step Counseling have their own specialties and populations that they serve. Our mission is to connect a client with a clinician in our community that will be a good fit for what they are struggling with. Many times we are able to provide mulitiple services within one family.

We hope that every client has a positive experience within the practice. How can we serve you?
