Self-compassion is a powerful practice that can transform how we relate to ourselves. Here are six simple yet profound ways to bring more kindness and care into your life:

1️⃣ Supportive Touch: A gentle hand on your heart or a comforting self-hug can soothe and ground you in moments of distress.

2️⃣ Treat Yourself Like a Friend: Speak to yourself with the same kindness and understanding you’d offer a dear friend.

3️⃣ Ask yourself, 'What do I need?': Pause for a moment and check in. Do you need rest, reassurance, movement, or connection? Listening to yourself with curiosity and care is a powerful act of self-compassion.

4️⃣ Write a Self-Compassionate Letter: Put pen to paper and offer yourself words of comfort and encouragement, just as you would to someone you love.

5️⃣ Remember You Aren’t Alone: It’s important to acknowledge that we all face challenges—this imperfection is what makes us human.

6️⃣ Use a Warm Inner Tone of Voice: Try to adopt a gentle tone with yourself, especially when things go wrong. Practice patience, love, and understanding toward yourself.

Y'all, we can all be difficult. And the most "difficult" aspects of our personalities are often self-protective, formed because we're afraid of exposing our most tender, vulnerable parts.

Many were raised to believe they were difficult simply because their caregivers or parents did not know how (or have the bandwidth) to support a growing human who displayed the full range of their emotional spectrum.

And so many people grew up to believe that big, core parts of who they are not lovable because their adults didn't know how to separate their worth & goodness from their feelings or behavior.

But you are so lovable.
You — you are so easy to love.

Even with your protective mechanisms - because they are not you, and you are not them. Your behavior is changeable, but your worth is not.

And when people can only see your protective parts, it's because they're also living in the world through their protective, reactive parts.

When we soften our defenses, it's becomes more natural to have compassion for others' hardness and to see it for what it is, and not to confuse it for who someone is. (which doesn't mean we don't have boundaries, but we don't need to define someone's essence by their pain).

This is all to say that you are lovable. And as rumi says, our work is not to seek for love, but simply to remove the barriers we have built against it.

May you feel the love today.

If you're working to soften your defenses, the live Let It Go (emotional self management) Workshop begins May 8, where you'll learn how to meet yourself with greater compassion and grounding when experiencing tough emotions.
Register by April 19 (now Friday!) and save $75 with code EARLYBIRD75 at checkout.
