This is your reminder that you do not have to be ok or have it all together to come to class.

May is mental health awareness month. There is a reason for that, now is a time su***de rates are highest. “The rebirth of spring is a desolate emotional landscape.” Personally, my brother Brian died by su***de on or after May 6, we found him on Mother’s Day 2024. The reasoning behind this phenomena is not entirely known. But just know that during this time, for whatever reason, is a more challenging time for many people, not just yourself.

This time of year we encourage you to check in on people. Let them know you care. Have deeper conversation and lend an ear in return. Come to class. Show up for yourself. Breathe and move through heaviness that we sometimes have a hard time navigating.

Yoga in its nature is therapeutic. It is a practice to get out of your head and restore peace and equinimity. It is the tool that many of us use personally and especially during challenging times. Most of us who teach, would not be ok without it and have had to lean on it many times throughout our lives.

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re offering a complimentary class for teachers on May 7th at 4:00 - 4:45 PM. Come take this time for yourself—you give so much, and this space is for you.

Afternoon Reset is a gentle + restorative practice to release the accumulated tension of the week, quiet the constant mental output, and reconnect with yourself.

After days spent holding space for others, this class offers you the opportunity to be supported. Through gentle, prop-supported stretches and calming breathwork, you’ll be guided into postures that soothe the nervous system, restore energy, and invite true rest.

Perfect for all levels, this practice is ideal if you’re feeling mentally drained, physically tight, or simply in need of a pause. You’ll leave feeling grounded, replenished, and more present—ready to move into your weekend with clarity, ease, and a renewed sense of balance.

Brian has been part of our Shores Yoga fam since day one. He was just as dedicated as I was to make something happen here in the Shores that we both wanted to be a part of and a studio we both wanted to practice at. I feel we accomplished that. Brian has given most of his Saturday mornings for the past 3+ years and we all know how important a Saturday boat day is. Now it is time to give back to him.

For those who don’t know, Brian has been battling chronic kidney disease caused by membranous nephropathy. As his condition has progressively worsened, he has reached the point of needing nightly at-home peritoneal dialysis just to sustain his health and keep him going each day. This journey has already been incredibly hard on Brian and his family, but after so much uncertainty, there is finally hope. In an extraordinary turn, Brian’s wife, Catherine, was found to be a match and will be donating her kidney to him on April 27.

❤️ Join us in surrounding Brian with love this Saturday prior to his surgery and the recovery ahead.

💸 Consider donating to help him and his family recover smoothly during this time.

Meet Erin!

“Three words to describe my teaching style: aligned, empowered, and grounding. I strive to create space for students to feel safe to explore their edge while still feeling supported by me.

I am currently into learning!!! I call myself a forever student because I’m always looking to learn more whether it’s anatomy, philosophy or how to use props in new ways!

I currently teach a blend which is the best of both worlds! This class format allows me to tap into the energy of the room. If we are energized we might have a lil more space to flow on your own in sun a’s & b’s. If we are out of gas it can be slower and sweeter like a slow burn. Students can expect a mix of effort and ease, a lil bit of challenge (hopefully surprising themselves!) and space to integrate back into their bodies.

I love helping someone accomplish they told me they “couldn’t” do. It can look like propping someone to help experience an inversion in a way that feels safe or even something like not dropping all the way to the floor in a chaturanga. I had a teacher tell me once that yoga is a practice of progression not perfection, so seeing students return to their mat and give it their all really lights me up.

I am an avid adventurer and outdoors enthusiast! The hike I’m most proud of is backpacking 42 miles along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. I’m currently in the middle of training for Angels Landing in Zion! I made the decision to apply to the lottery a few months ago when thinking about what I wanted to do for my birthday. Society tells everyone (but especially women) to be afraid of getting old and turning 30 is a big marker of that. I decided I wanted to do something actually scary for my birthday and was awarded a permit!

Restorative Yoga is like wrapping yourself in a warm, supportive embrace. It’s a deeply nourishing practice designed to calm the nervous system, release tension, and invite true rest. Using bolsters, blankets, and blocks, you’ll be gently guided into fully supported, passive poses—allowing the body to receive the benefits of each shape without strain or effort.

While similar to Yin, Restorative focuses less on sensation and more on comfort, ease, and stillness. The intention is simple: to feel supported enough to soften, let go, and settle.

A typical class includes 5–8 poses, each held for 3–7 minutes, giving you time to unwind, reset, and reconnect—body, mind, and breath.

You can find restorative on our schedule Monday’s at 7:30 pm.
