As we flow into spring, it's important to start preparing for the future. Summer is one of those times that sobriety is challenged - don't give into the pressures of drinking.
1. Organize your time - Before starting any vacations or plans, create detailed outlines that include places you want to visit, things you want to do, and what you can bring to be more comfortable.
2. Stay connected to your support network - Maintaining connections to your friends, family, sponsors, and other support can help you stay sober during the summer, as well as any difficult times that arise.
3. Prepare yourself with coping strategies - Create a list of coping strategies you can use during the summer, such as:
- Listening to or playing music
- Meditation and/or yoga
- Journaling
- Exercise
- Painting or other creative hobbies
4. Host your own events - Rather than trying to find events, venues, or parties that donโt involve alcoholic beverages, try hosting your own with sober friends & family.
5. Try something new - Summer is a great time to get into new hobbies or try something youโve always wanted to try. Some examples include:
- Baking
- Reading/Writing
- Painting
- Backpacking
- Concerts/Festivals
- Sports
