“October brings a whirlwind of emotions as we observe Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. For many parents like me, it’s a relief to see this important topic gaining attention, allowing us to feel less alone. Yet, we also bear the heavy responsibility of keeping alive the memories of our children who have passed, which can be incredibly challenging.
My precious Hadley was one of those babies taken too soon. After three first-trimester losses and a few years of infertility, I welcomed Hadley at 25 weeks due to what we believe was an incompetent cervix. We did everything we could to keep her safe in utero, but she was ready to enter the world. She fought bravely for 13 days before losing her battle to NEC and a grade 4 brain bleed, complications we can only attribute to her prematurity. Her life, though brief, was beautiful, and her father and I long to hold her again. Losing her felt like a crushing blow, leaving me breathless and heartbroken. There’s no remedy for such pain, and no answers to the question, “Why did this happen to me?”
Each loss profoundly reshapes lives and hearts in ways that often go unnoticed. This month, we come together to support those who have experienced the heartache of pregnancy and infant loss.
To those grieving: you are not alone. Your feelings are valid, and your loss is significant. Let’s create a space filled with compassion and understanding, where we can share our experiences and support one another. I’m here to stand with you.”
