Happy 72nd Birthday to us!🥳

Sunday, we celebrated 72 years of service! UCP Heartland was founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents and volunteers, who wanted to provide a higher quality of life for family members and friends living with disabilities.

Did you know that 1,543,928 adults in Missouri have a disability. This is equal to 31% or 1 in 4 adults in Missouri. (CDC)

We love seeing the incredible connections our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) make! Recently, one of our RBTs took a moment outside with a client that blossomed into a fantastic learning opportunity.

What started as a simple outdoor break quickly became a lesson in potting a plant, a life skill and a surprising new hobby! This moment was so powerful because it engaged the senses, and modeled friendship & interest.

It’s a perfect example of how our team meets clients where they are, transforming everyday moments into meaningful growth and discovery!

Our Adult Day Services staff recently participated in a professional development day focused on enhancing their skills and knowledge.

Training sessions covered key areas such as wheelchair loading protocols, safe use of lifts, advocacy, effective communication, and the use of adaptive equipment — all to better support the people we serve every day.

Our November Employee Spotlight is Marissa Roll. Marissa has worked for UCP Heartland for 2.5 years as the Lead BCBA at our Columbia Autism Clinic!

She trains new hires, promotes relationship building and communication, creates client plans, and attends community events to share about the clinic. Marissa loves seeing the positive impact their work has on clients at the clinic. She enjoys being a part of training employees to help clients grow and thrive.

She is proud that multiple clients are now able to attend school and find success due to the hard work of everyone at the clinic. “Seeing the thankfulness and happiness from the parents always has a lasting impact on me.”

Marissa feels others should work for UCP because of the mission-centered approach we take to work. She said, “They know your name and are interested in getting to know you. This cultivates a sense of family and makes me want to work harder.”

Today is National STEM Day! STEM aims to inspire and engage people as well as develop their critical thinking skills.

A huge thank you to LabCorp for the generous grant that allowed us to bring adaptive learning tools to our ABA clinic! This equipment isn’t just "play"—it’s empowering our kids on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to thrive in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). This grant is making an impact, through hands-on learning, crucial life skills, sensory regulation, skill building.

In August, our Residential program opened a new home in the Sappington area!

Timmy—better known by his business cards as "Mr. Social" moved into the new home. Timmy recently faced the loss of his friend and roommate, James. Through this time of transition, he embarked on a new journey.

Timmy embraced the change with grace, gratitude, and his natural gift for connecting with others. He was eager to tell everyone about his new staff and our gift of wind chimes given in James' memory.

Timmy has already started dreaming big about all the fun adventures ahead, from cheering at Battle Hawks and Blues games to visiting the Zoo, and plenty of pizza at Fortel’s. With such an energetic spirit and love for life, it’s clear that he will be keeping his new team out and enjoying the community!
