A Whole Lot of Shakin' Goin' On!

The use of vibration plates, or shake plates, for health has been growing in popularity. Some studies have indicated that they can be beneficial for your health, however, you should always investigate the source of the research study. All well constructed research studies indicate areas for further research on the subject at the end of the research article. Some of the studies have small research subject groups, under 20 people. It's important to look at the sample of subjects that participated in the study as well. Most research studies in general, until recently, was conducted on men unless the study was specifically designed for women.

What is important to know about vibration plates? Vibration plates use mechanical energy, or movement, to engage your muscles. This movement can engage deeper, or core muscles. However, if you have a condition or disease that affects your muscle tone, it may not benefit your muscles, but may actually result in excess fatigue or deplete your energy reserve. This would actually have a damaging effect on your body systems. If you have a neuromuscular condition, keep in mind that the use of a vibration plate could deplete an already compromised, or weakened, system. It would be best to avoid use or to use minimally (less than 1 minute).

Vibration plates mechanically move larger waste products, or toxins, into your lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system differs from your blood vessels as your lymphatic system actually has large openings in the lymph vessels that will allow larger molecules (or waste products) to pass through. Once these waste products enter the lymph vessel, they travel through the lymph vessels into the heart where they enter the circulatory system. These toxins can enter the lymph vessels when you use a vibration plate by simply being "shaken" into the system. The shaking motion creates passive pressure gradients that can facilitate the movement of the waste products into the lymph vessels.

The user can experience a "detoxification" effect when using a vibration plate for the first time. It may not be a good idea to use a vibration plate for longer than 5 minutes, as you can experience a "detoxification effect" that can actually make the user feel a bit sick. Too much use can result in what is referred to as a "healing crisis". A healing crisis is when the body detoxifies too quickly and you become sick as a result of losing a large amount of toxins quickly. When it comes to using a vibration plate, more is not better. Use it in small increments, 5 minutes or less, once a day.

Charlie's Kitchen Gummies Now At Myofascial STL Plus

NO-Charlie's Kitchen Gummies DO NOT HAVE THC OR CBD. I thought I would clarify that right away. Charlie, Charolette Jones, is a clinical herbalist with a license to compound plants. She learned about herbology from her grandmother, who was the Tribal Leader of the Osage Tribe. Charlie herself is a member of the Northern Osage Tribe, Hummingbird Clan. She has a Masters in Clinical Herbalism.

What makes Charlie's Kitchen Gummies different? They are formulated with high quality herbs and plants. She takes special care to be sure to aquire the best part of the plant to formulate her gummies. Did you know that when you buy herbs they can technically use any part of the plant to package and sell over the counter? Charlie is aware of this, so she goes through great lengths to obtain the best part of the plants to compound her products. She uses adaptogenic plants. Adaptogenic means that they assist the body in modulating stress and returning to balance. There are no artificial colors, minimal added sugar or preservatives in her products. They are vegan and gluten free. They are, however, produced in an area that is exposed to nuts. So if you have nut allergies, these products are not recommended. She has a variety of products and the three we are currently carrying are The Inflammation Gummies, The Power Wash Detox Gummies, and The Calming Gummies.

Inflammation Gummies-ideal for anyone who has arthritis, autoimmune challenges, inflammation, neurological symptoms. Take 1 daily on an empty stomache. $36 for a one month supply.

Exercise May Not Be What You Think

We have been told for most of our life that exercise is the path to good health. What we haven't been told is that each body reacts differently to exercise. The majority of our exercise research is based on a small sample of participants. Until recently, research was not widely executed over a wide range of age groups, genders or ethnic groups. Most of the research on exercise is based on men, young men. And in that group, we don't even have a culturally diverse group of young men. When it comes to exercise, your best coach is your body. Learn to listen to your body.

There are groups of people who can exercise rigorously without difficulty. They have a genetic composition to avoid high cortisol production when they are exercising rigorously. However, that is a relatively small percentage of the population. It's important to avoid pushing your body into a fight or flight situation when you are exercising. You could be exercising so hard that you are producing cortisol and pushing your body into a stress response, which could actually be damaging to your body, not helpful to your health.
Pay attention to your body and body responses when you are exercising. Once you learn to notice your body reactions, it will guide you more effectively through the most appropriate exercise for your genetics.
Hyperflexible people should avoid loading their joints. They should avoid even light weights, step work outs and resistance bands. They should walk, do gentle yoga (not in the extremes of stretching positions), execute active motion, dance or gentle swimming. If they engage in too much pressure on their joints, they can activate an inflammatory response in their body which creates more problems and can result in increased pain. So for these people, less is more, and and effective way to exercise. I, myself, am hypermobile and walk 5 miles a day, but don't ask me to walk up a hill. I walk on level surfaces only. If I walk on hills, my body develops pain in every joint, lots of pain.
So don't worry about what others say you "should" do to exercise. Listen to your body and see what works for you. Remember, most of our research is pretty limited when it comes to exercise.

25 Year Celebration Coming in August

Myofascial STL Plus Corp has been offering Myofascial Release longer than any other clinic in St. Louis. We will be hosting a 25 years celebration this August. Watch for free give aways and classes coming soon. We are nearly finished redesigning our space and our new website will be launching soon. We are excited about our simple suggestions page on the new website, which offers free suggestions for healthy living. We have had to adjust our prices to balance out our fee schedule (read further down for information on that), but we will be balancing it with lots of great benefits for everyone in the very near future!

The Benefits of Monthly Myofascial Tune Ups for Your Health

Fascial holding patterns tend to tighten over time. Each time you are exposed to a stressful thought, your fascia reacts to the production of cortisol by tightening into a protective holding pattern. This can occur gradually over time, until one day your nervous system has "met the threshold" or the stimulus becomes just enough to tip the scales and a symptom develops. Maybe the symptom is minor, so you ignore it and continue without addressing it. This creates more stress in the body, creating more cortisol, so the fascia tightens more, crating a more restricted protective holding pattern. Your discomfort level begins to increase, so you try "something"- maybe an herbal, an over the counter medicine, or a stretch, but you still keep going on and don't modify your response to the stressor. Eventually, you end up with a full blown event that removes you from the situation until you learn to manage your stressor in a way that your body can handle it without increasing cortisol and tightening the fascia.

Monthly fascial tune ups can start releasing these patterns before they get out of control. They can assist you in identifying methods for management that work for your body. This will allow you to restructure your approach to stress and allow you to process the stress through your body versus internalizing it in your fascial system, where it becomes problematic.
Monthly fascial tune up visits assist in the following:
1. Reducing the impact of fascial holding patterns on the body which can result in pressure to adjacent nerves, muscles, lymph vessels, and related body structures.
2. Increased nervous system relaxation (stimulation of the restore, relax, regulation side of the nervous system).
3. Improved sleep and digestion as a result of increased activation of the rest and restore side of the nervous system.
4. Decreased stimulation of the fight/flight/freeze area of the nervous system (the area of the brain that produces cortisol which tightens fascia).
5. Improved mental focus and clarity, a reduction in "brain clutter" that results from an overactive fight/flight/freeze response.
Go online, call or text us to schedule you monthly fascial tune ups for better health and less stress. It's more important than just feeling better.

Pricing to Change June 1

To align with the reimbursement of Medicare Advantage and other third party providers, we adjusted our prices to allow for a uniform 15 minute unit across all hands-on services. Some prices will decrease and some will increase. To offset this inconvenience, we will be offering 15 minutes of free vibroacoustics with all 60, 90 and 120 minute sessions. If you would like to decline your vibroacoustics, you can gift your session to a Veteran or our community redemption program for a client in need. We are thankful for all of our clients and wanted to find a solution to benefit everyone. We won’t bill Medicare Advantage one amount and other clients a different amount. We also didn’t want to inflate the amount unreasonably to Medicare Advantage, so we feel we came up with a solution that would benefit everyone. FREE VIBRO. This will allow us to meet the unit billing requirements of Medicare Advantage billing, third party billing and our clients without complicating the process. Thank you for you continued support.

How much hands-on, individual time do you get for your Physical Therapy co-pay? Did you know it’s not cost effective for most Physical Therapist to spend more than 15 minutes in one on one, hands-on manual therapy time with a patient? At Myofascial STL Plus we spend a full 55-60 minutes hands-on one client in a session.

$5 Informational Class About Insurance & Myofascial Release Apr 28 @ 5:30

Join us for a $5 Zoom class on navigating the insurance system for possible reimbursement for massage therapy. The healthcare climate is changing and even though most insurance plans do not reimburse for massage therapy, some plans are starting to add wellness benefits. There are some stipulations and some effort required on the policyholders end. Join us as we discuss Dr orders, Medicare Advantage plans, HSA plans, auto insurance and the basics of wellness benefits being offered by some employers. We will discuss how we are equipped to distribute superbills, what your part is and what you will most likely need from your physician. MOST INSURANCE COMPANIES DO NOT REIMBURSE FOR MASSAGE THERAPY, BUT SOME PLANS ARE BEGINNING TO REIMBURSE. Myofascial STL Plus is ahead of the curve as we have implemented and electronic health record, a HIPAA compliant patient portal and superbills to make it as easy as possible for you to gain reimbursement when it becomes available to you via your healthcare plan. We have invested a lot into making this available to our clients because we believe it is going to become more common, although it may be limited or capped. The passage of the NOPAIN act in 2022 has already impacted medicare reimbursement of non opioid pain management approaches beginning in Jan of this year. Registration link below.

Fascial Stretch & Sound Class-Neck and Back, Apr 28, 6-7pm

Registration Links Below

Join us either in person (limited to 8 in person) or via Zoom (unlimted Zoom registration participants) for a fascial stretch session for the back and neck. The class begins with flexibility measurements for your back and neck including forward reaching and rotation. After measuring flexibility, participate in a simple fascial stretch combined with breathing techniques that release the fascia along the neck and low back. The stretches are enhanced by sound bowl vibrations and tones. This is a body awareness approach, not a fitness approach. Fascia has different properties as compared to muscles and requires a different type of stretch. This class is designed to assist and teach the participant to learn what fascia releases feel like within their body so they can continue these stretches on their own at home. The class concludes with a flexibility measurement and comparison of the back and neck motion.
