This year, I celebrated my birthday in Paris - a city full of beauty, history, and little bit of magic. ✹

While the Eiffel Tower was stunning, one of my favorite moments was bringing a little piece of STL Fertility with me
in the form of a printed photo of our amazing Nurse Practitioner, Mel. 💕

Even across the ocean, I’m reminded of the incredible team I get to work with every day
and the patients we’re honored to support.

Merci, Paris and thank you to everyone who made this birthday so special. Here’s to joy, gratitude, and a little travel-inspired perspective. đŸ„‚

What happens to unused embryos after IVF?

It’s a question many patients don’t expect to face, but one that becomes very real once your family feels complete and embryos remain in storage.

The truth is: there’s no one “right” answer. But there are options.

Unused embryos can be:
👉 Stored for future use (sometimes for years)
👉 Donated to another individual or couple hoping to build a family
👉 Donated to scientific research to help advance fertility care
👉 Respectfully discarded, depending on personal, ethical, or religious beliefs

These decisions are deeply personal and often emotional. That’s why we talk about them early in the IVF process, so you have time to consider what feels right for you.
Yet another option is to limit the number of eggs being fertilized from the beginning so as to limit the number of potential embryos being frozen. Additional unfertilized eggs, not embryos, can then be frozen for future use.

Embryos represent hope, effort, and possibility. Whatever you choose, it should reflect your values, your journey, and your vision for the future.

If you’re still waiting this summer -- waiting for answers, for a cycle to start, for a positive, I want you to know this: waiting is not wasted time.

In fertility care, so much happens behind the scenes. Your body is recalibrating. Your care team is reviewing every detail. And your story is still unfolding, even if it feels like everything is standing still.

It’s okay to feel frustrated. It’s okay to feel tired. But please don’t mistake this pause for a lack of progress. Sometimes, the most important shifts are the ones we can’t see yet.

You are not behind. You are not forgotten. You are doing something incredibly brave by continuing to hope.

And when you’re ready to take the next step, the team at and I will be right here. đŸ©”

Planning an end-of-summer getaway while navigating fertility treatment? It’s absolutely doable... with a little extra prep. 😉

Whether you’re mid-cycle, starting meds, or waiting on test results, travel can add a layer of complexity. But it doesn’t have to derail your progress.

Here are a few things I talk through with patients before they hit the road:
✈ Timing is everything. If you’re doing monitoring or lab work, we’ll help you plan around key dates or coordinate care if you’ll be away.
✈ Medication management matters. Some fertility meds require refrigeration or specific timing. Pack a cooler bag, bring extra supplies, and always carry meds in your carry-on.
✈ Stay in touch. Keep your care team in the loop about your travel plans so we can adjust protocols if needed.

Fertility care doesn’t stop for summer, but it can travel with you. With the right planning, you can enjoy your trip and stay on track.

Exercise plays a powerful role in reproductive health. Moderate, consistent activity can help regulate hormones, support ovulation, reduce stress, and improve blood flow to reproductive organs. But when workouts become too intense -- think long-distance running, high-heat training, or back-to-back high-impact sessions -- it can disrupt your cycle and even prevent ovulation.

So, what’s the right balance? It depends on your body, your diagnosis, and where you are in your fertility journey. For most people, moderate activity like walking, swimming, yoga, or light strength training is not only safe, it’s beneficial.

If you’re planning a big hike, training for a race, or just wondering how your summer routine fits into your treatment plan, let’s talk. Your body is working hard, and your fitness should support that, not compete with it.

Fibroids don’t take a summer break, and if you’re TTC, they might be doing more than just making you uncomfortable.

If you’re dealing with heavy periods, bloating, or pelvic pain that seems worse in the heat, you’re not imagining it. Summer can make fibroid symptoms feel even more intense, thanks to dehydration, heat stress, and hormonal shifts.

But here’s the real kicker: fibroids can also mess with your fertility. Depending on their size and location, they can:
👉 Block s***m from reaching the egg
👉 Interfere with implantation
👉 Increase the risk of miscarriage or pregnancy complications

Not all fibroids cause problems, but if you’re trying to conceive and dealing with symptoms, it’s worth getting checked out. There are treatment options that can preserve your fertility and help you feel like yourself again.

If your summer plans include staying cool and getting answers, I’m here for it. Let’s talk.

Let’s clear something up: IVF is not the only fertility treatment, and it’s not always the first step.

There’s a common misconception that IVF is the automatic go-to for anyone struggling to conceive. But in reality, fertility care is far more nuanced. Depending on your diagnosis, age, hormone levels, and personal goals, other options may be more appropriate and more effective.

For some patients, ovulation induction or timed in*******se may be all that’s needed. Others may benefit from intrauterine insemination (IUI), surgical intervention, or lifestyle changes before considering IVF.

IVF is a powerful tool, but it’s just one of many in our toolkit. The key is understanding your body and building a treatment plan that’s tailored to it.

Because the best fertility plan isn’t the most aggressive, it’s the one that’s right for you.

Over the weekend, my daughter and I tried our hand at beekeeping in Austin and wow, did we learn some wild facts about bees and reproduction!

Did you know the Queen Bee is the only bee with ovaries? She mates with male drones in midair and stores their s***m for the rest of her life. This allows her to keep reproducing without needing to mate again! đŸ€Ż

Nature is full of fascinating fertility strategies, and this one definitely caught my attention. It’s a reminder that reproduction looks different across species but the science behind it is always incredible. I’m a total sucker for anything fertility or reproduction related!

In fertility care, progress isn’t always linear, and sometimes, the most powerful step forward is a pause.

Whether it’s to recover physically, regroup emotionally, or simply catch your breath, taking a break from treatment is not a failure. It’s a strategy.

I’ve seen firsthand how stress, burnout, and emotional fatigue can impact not just your well-being, but your body’s response to treatment. Giving yourself space to rest can help reset hormones, reduce inflammation, and restore clarity both mentally and physiologically.

There’s no “perfect” timeline. There’s only your timeline. And if that includes a pause, it’s not a detour it’s part of the plan.

When you’re ready, we’ll be here. đŸ©”

In fertility care, one-size-fits-all doesn’t fit anyone.

At STL Fertility, we believe your treatment plan should be as unique as your biology. That’s where precision medicine comes in.

Using tools like hormone profiling, genetic testing, and advanced diagnostics, we can tailor every aspect of your care from medication dosing to embryo selection to your specific needs. This approach helps us:
đŸ©” Identify the root causes of infertility
đŸ©” Optimize ovarian stimulation protocols
đŸ©” Reduce the risk of complications like OHSS
đŸ©” Improve outcomes with fewer failed cycles

We also use technologies like Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) to screen embryos for chromosomal abnormalities and carrier screening to help prevent inherited conditions.

The result? A smarter, more efficient path to the healthiest pregnancy designed just for you. Because your fertility journey deserves more than a template. It deserves a plan that actually works.

Not all sunscreens are created equal, especially when it comes to their impact on your fertility.

Some chemical sunscreens contain ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which are known endocrine disruptors. These compounds can mimic estrogen in the body and have the potential to interfere with hormone balance, ovulation, and even IVF outcomes.

While the research is still evolving, we know enough to say this: if you’re trying to conceive or undergoing fertility treatment, it’s worth being mindful of what you’re putting on your skin, especially in the summer when sunscreen use is near daily.

Mineral-based sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are generally considered safer alternatives. They sit on the skin’s surface rather than being absorbed, and they don’t carry the same hormone-disrupting concerns.

Is your choice of sunscreen likely to be the only factor impacting your fertility? No! But fertility is complex because when you’re trying to conceive, we want as many factors going in our favor as possible. And small, science-backed choices, like switching your sunscreen, can help.

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t always get the spotlight in fertility care: Environmental factors and how they can impact your reproductive health.

Every day, we’re exposed to substances called endocrine disruptors—chemicals that can interfere with your hormones. Over time, these exposures may affect:
◟Egg and s***m quality
◟Ovulation
◟Hormonal balance
◟Even your response to fertility treatments

Common culprits include:
◟ BPA (found in some plastics and canned foods)
◟Phthalates (often in personal care products, like fragrance or vinyl)
◟Pesticides and industrial chemicals

The good news? You don’t have to overhaul your entire life to make a difference. Swipe for five easy, but meaningful swaps!

Remember, no one can eliminate all exposures—but being mindful adds up, especially when you’re preparing your body for pregnancy.

Knowledge is power—and we’re here to help you take charge of your health, one small change at a time.
