6 years ago, we opened our doors…

…and one week later, the world shut down.

In March 2020, Healing Reflections Therapy began in uncertainty. Like many, we had to quickly adapt—reimagining how to show up, how to support, and how to stay connected during one of the most isolating times in recent history.

We didn’t just survive—we thrived.

Over the past 6 years:

• We’ve expanded to a team of 4 clinicians (and 1 beloved therapy dog 🐾)

• Created a training program to support marriage and family therapy interns

Trained and supervised future Marriage & Family Therapists

• Created newsletters, mental health articles, and psychoeducational resources

Expanded into a second office suite

• Provided tens of thousands of hours of therapy

• Supported nearly 1,000 individuals across the St. Louis community

Each session, each story, each moment of healing has been an honor.

To our clients, colleagues, and community—thank you for trusting us.

We’re just getting started.

Here’s to the next chapter of healing, growth, and connection 💚

On more than a few occasions, clients have relayed that they feel that their past therapist had experienced a crisis or a mental health breakdown and had left the field because of them. Therapists are human and can be vulnerable to their own mental health crises, which may prompt them to leave the field. It is not usually because of the client. Most of the time, those therapists have already been experiencing a multitude of things in their lives that have culminated in significant levels of distress, and their ability to fully be there for a client has been limited.

Pulling Back the Curtain on Therapy: Translating Common Therapist/Client Injuries and Misperceptions in Session

As therapy enters the mainstream, more and more comedians, actors, influencers, and layfolk are talking openly about their experiences. It’s wonderful to see the stigma breaking down and people accessing the mental health care they need, yet at the same time, when I read comments sections, I see so many people who have had negative experiences with their therapist. Many folks report believing that their therapist ghosted them, while others fear that they have hurt their therapist or that their therapist couldn’t handle them, or worse yet, fear that their therapist left the field entirely because of them.
