The holidays are here. They’re all around us, unavoidable, and full of memories and feelings.
Don’t forget your self care tools.
And always remember and respect your own boundaries.

If you don’t take care of yourself first, it’s so much harder to be there for anyone else.

We at Baram Psychiatry want to honor our veterans today.

No matter what country you served.

No matter the circumstances of your service.

Any person who serves in the military gives up so much more than a few years of their lives. And those that come home often carry invisible burdens that can feel impossible to live with.

Thank you for everything you’ve done and everything you’ve given up to protect your fellow countrymen. We acknowledge and respect your sacrifice.

In case of crisis, our veterans can contact the Veterans Crisis Line at (800) 273-8255.

It’s tough navigating this very unusual time right now as an adult, but our children may also be having a difficult time though without the developmental skills to appropriately verbalize or even understand their feelings. When helping a child get through this with us, try to use these techniques to work more toward understanding than subduing.

The days are getting shorter, and we’re starting to see Seasonal Affective Disorder making its rounds again. Be sure to take good care of yourself while we get through colder, darker days, and never hesitate to reach out if it gets to be too much for you!

Happy first day of fall!

Two of our newest PMHNPs, Aldijana Sacic and Megan Robison, have been going to South City Hospital (previously known as St. Alexius) to provide the care that they learned from Dr. Baram and extend services to some of St. Louis’s underserved communities.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a fantastic group that provides educational materials and resources for those living with mental illness who would like to learn more about their condition. There are national and local chapters, including NAMI Missouri and NAMI St. Louis, that also have support groups and can help you connect with people in similar situations.

We at Baram Psychiatry appreciate NAMI for all that they do and encourage anyone to check them out and see if they might have something that can help you live your best life.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

How true is this?!
These negative, false phrases we are all guilty of thinking are called “cognitive distortions.” The key is to identify them, and change them! Medications only do half of the work for most mental illnesses, so be sure to incorporate psychotherapy into your treatment plan as well!
