💔 OccMedMD Is Standing Strong With Our Community

Today, we had the sobering privilege of getting first-hand experience touring the tornado-stricken areas of St. Louis with Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. and AGC of Missouri. The destruction is heartbreaking — but the strength and unity of our community is powerful.

We were inspired by the incredible labor teams working tirelessly to help clean up and rebuild out of the goodness of their heart, including:
🔨 PARIC
🚧 Keeley Companies
🏗️ Clayco
🛠️ Millstone Weber, LLC
👷 Fred M. Luth & Sons, Inc
Any MANY more!

Thank you so much for supporting people from these communities in their darkest hours.

These crews are putting in the real work to help St. Louis recover — and we’re honored to support them and all other restoration crews in return. We will continue to provide needed supplies, financial support, and manpower. Our office will continue to serve people who are injured while assisting with these efforts 7 days a week.

✔️ At OccMedMD, we care for these hardworking teams when injuries happen.
✔️ We offer same- and next-day care to help them recover quickly and safely.
✔️ It’s our mission to support the people rebuilding our communities — every step of the way.

To all those showing up, putting in the labor, and leading with heart — thank you. You are the strength of St. Louis and we will come back stronger than before. 💪

There is a one simple action that could save your company massive amounts of money today!

As an occupational medicine physician serving Missouri businesses, I’ve seen firsthand how workplace accidents can disrupt lives, teams, and operations. When an incident happens, one of the most critical steps employers can take is post-accident drug and alcohol testing. It’s not about pointing fingers—it’s about safety, accountability, and protecting everyone involved.

In Missouri, the workers' compensation laws allow for a possible reduction of compensation when an injured worker tests positive for non-prescribed controlled substances or alcohol after an accident. However, many employers do no make post-injury testing part of their standard protocol. By implementing this one step in all post-injury workers' compensation care plans, companies could benefit in several ways in addition to cost savings.

1. Ensuring a Safe Work Environment
Industries like construction, manufacturing, and transportation are the backbone of our economy. But they also carry risks. If an employee is impaired by drugs or alcohol, their reaction time, judgment, and coordination suffer—putting themselves and their coworkers in danger. Testing after an accident helps identify if substance use was a factor, so we can prevent repeat incidents and keep workplaces safe.

2. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
Missouri employers aren’t just responsible for their teams—they’re accountable under state and federal laws. For example, the Department of Transportation (DOT) mandates post-accident testing for certain roles, like commercial drivers. Even in non-DOT settings, conducting these tests can protect your business from liability and show you’re serious about following best practices.

3. Supporting Fairness and Clarity
After an accident, questions swirl: What happened? Who’s at fault? Post-accident testing provides objective data to cut through the noise. It ensures no one is unfairly blamed and helps determine the root cause—whether it’s impairment, equipment failure, or something else. This clarity is vital for workers’ compensation claims, insurance processes, and maintaining trust within your team.

4. Deterrence and Prevention
When employees know testing is standard after an incident, it sends a clear message: impairment isn’t tolerated. This proactive approach can deter substance use on the job, reducing the likelihood of accidents in the first place.

At OccMedMD, we’ve worked with countless businesses across Missouri to implement effective post-accident testing programs. We’re here to make the process seamless and compliant. Accidents happen—but with the right response, we can minimize their impact and keep our workplaces thriving.

Have questions about setting up a testing protocol? Reach out to us at OccMedMD. Let’s keep Missouri workers safe, together.

Are you the artist or the work of art?

"You are BOTH the artist and the masterpiece".

Your body is the canvas, and every choice you make - from the food you eat to the way you move - is a brushstroke. But unlike a painting that hangs static on a wall, you are art in motion, constantly evolving.

As a preventive medicine doctor, who has struggled myself with my weight and fitness, I want you to think differently about your wellness journey. It's not about erasing or starting over - it's about adding depth, dimension, and vitality to your existing masterpiece. Each healthy meal nourishes your canvas. Every workout sculpts and strengthens your form.

The most beautiful part? You have the power to refine your creation every single day. Your transformation isn't just about numbers on a scale - it's about bringing your masterpiece to life through mindful choices, consistent effort, and self-compassion.

Remember: Great artists don't rush their work. They take time to understand their medium, perfect their technique, and celebrate each small victory along the way.

Take that first step today, clean out the junk food, go to the gym for at least 10 minutes, create an environment that gets you one step closer to your goals.

And.. always remember... when you fall down, GET BACK UP.

What will you create today?

Employee workers' compensation solutions that reduce costs, prevent loss of productivity, and increases employee satisfaction.

True success in workers' compensation isn't about choosing between employee care and company results – it's about recognizing how deeply these priorities align.

When we approach injured worker care with genuine empathy, unwavering integrity, and clinical excellence, something remarkable happens. Employees feel truly supported during vulnerable moments, leading to faster recoveries and better outcomes. Companies see reduced costs, enhanced productivity, and strengthened workplace trust.

I've witnessed firsthand how this comprehensive approach transforms workplace dynamics:
- Recovery times improve when workers know their wellbeing is the top priority
- Return-to-work programs succeed when built on trust and open communication
- Healthcare costs naturally decrease when we focus on quality care from day one
- Employee satisfaction and loyalty grow when workers experience genuine support during challenging times

The key is consistency: every injured worker deserves the same high standard of empathetic, professional care. When we deliver this consistently, we create a virtuous cycle where better care leads to better business outcomes.

This isn't just about managing claims – it's about honoring our commitment to both the businesses we serve and the hardworking individuals who drive their success.

What experiences have shaped your perspective on workplace injury care? Let's continue this important conversation.
