Being located in has lots of perks, best among them, the art! Very appropriate for these summer days, the painting on display in the heart of LSAC is Rocío García’s “A pleno sol (Full Sun)”. The artist, who is based in Cuba, presents a scene of frenetic recreation on a beach. The figures in her painting perform in a single scene of a play without words. Viewers join in the sunny beach day with many characters in mid-motion drinking, flirting, sun bathing, swimming, and smooching. The story even includes some sly side-eye from a police officer and K-9 companion. García’s use of glaring, sunny colors and shadows is so rich you can feel the temperature change on your skin. Known for her distinctive illustrative style, use of light and shadows, and often clandestine narrative subject matter, García studied at The Repin Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia and has exhibited around the world.
