Congress abandoned far worse proposed cuts that were initially being considered due to the overwhelming pushback they received, and several harmful provisions were eventually stripped out of the final bill, including a ban on gender affirming care coverage under Medicaid and steeper cuts to states that use non-federal funds to provide coverage for immigrant communities.
Importantly, many of the cuts or changes that remained will not immediately take effect, with some of the worst delayed for several years. Here’s a rough timeline of when some of the most damaging provisions are expected to go into effect.
