This month The STL Doula turned 1!!!

God, you have been so, SO, good.

I’ve prayed in hospital rooms.
I’ve been the first to pray over new life.
I’ve prayed over a baby born not breathing + watched her take her first breath in the midst of prayer.
I’ve spoken God’s word out loud in front of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses despite the negative reports they were speaking.
I’ve been able to support twin births, home births and everything in between.

All by the grace of God. All by the favor of God. All by the mercy of God.

This isn’t just a job, but a ministry. A call from God. Thank you for choosing me.

Thank you for expansion and meeting !! She’s been nothing but a blessing.

Thank you — and I can’t wait to see where He directs our steps next!

Let’s jump right in to this awesome first time mom birth story!!

Quick + confident was the name of her game 😌

Rachel’s birth was marked by patience, persistence, and never giving your thoughts the drivers seat.

Once again, I am humbled by the calling and honor placed on mothers.

That title is sacred and must be protected 🤍

2 pm: take castor oil

6 pm: have baby in your arms

That’s pretty much how this sweet mama’s birth went!

All jokes aside, this was such a beautiful and redemptive birth. Demi’s first birth did not go according to plan or expectation and left this family looking for more the second time around.

Mama’s water broke overnight and contractions didn’t start immediately. We tried the miles circuit, pumping to stimulate + get oxytocin flowing, position change — then we tried 2 oz castor oil.

I always recommend that this be done in the presence of your healthcare provider and it doesn’t always work but when it does — IT DOES!

Mama soon experienced those productive surges that are so intense but bring you closer your baby 🤍🩵

At one point while laboring the tub, Demi admitted she was feeling a little fearful as her body signaled it was time to push.

As her doula, I looked her in the eyes and reminded her that this was her body and her bodies physiological sensations would not overtake her!

Her body was doing this. She was doing this.

Just in time for dinner, Max was born and mama got her Chic-Fil-A! 🐔

I pray her story encourages mamas that physiological birth is possible, it’s not a lofty goal that only the “super tough” can accomplish — it is your body and your own body will not produce sensations that will overtake you.

This sweet family 🩷

It was a JOY to support them in bringing their sweet daughter, Joy Elizabeth, in to this world a month earlier than expected 🥰

I hadn’t yet gone on call for Jordan yet, but that night she texted me around 8 pm that she thought her water broke and they were heading to the hospital.

I stayed alert and asked her to keep me posted. After arrival, she discovered she was in labor and 5 cm !! Baby was coming that night!

I arrived at the hospital and shortly after baby girl was born — healthy, strong and nursing almost immediately. She was just ready to come in her own time.

I always joke that babies are on their own schedule and they rarely care what’s on ours 😂

Mama was healthy, baby was healthy and both were absolute rockstars throughout the entire process 🌟

Jude’s birth story — February 12, 2021 ❤️

I had just scheduled an induction for around his due date — which was still 2 weeks away. No medical reason, I was just offered this as an option by my doctor.

At 37 weeks and 6 days, my water broke spontaneously after journaling to God about how I wanted a Valentine’s Day baby + I was realllly tired of being pregnant 😮‍💨

My water broke around 8 am and we decided to go to Chick-Fil-A because we were told I wouldn’t be able to eat during labor. As we were ordering, the surges started and were coming every 3 minutes!

I labored unmedicated with a birthing ball, shower + the 2 breathing techniques I knew (I was not a doula at the time) until the nurse performed a cervical exam + said I was about to be screaming for the epidural so I should get it soon.

I got the epidural, and my BP dropped drastically. They had to come back in and give me more meds to get it back up again. This was the worst part of our entire birth story, but Jude’s heart rate never dropped and he stayed happy!

I was administered Pitocin, and kind of just sat there the rest of the day until it was time to push.

I couldn’t stop thinking about meeting my sweet baby and becoming a mom for the first time!

Our birth story was the hospital standard, and knowing what I know now I would have changed a lot, but no matter the process it still brought me the absolute best thing to happen to me! Jude Marsh 🤍

Not only did he make me a mama, but he made me a doula! I fell in love with pregnancy + childbirth after this and it led me to where I am now.

Jude inspires + ignites me to be a better me.

This sweet mama 🤍

Her birth was truly a God story.

She overcame so many bumps in the road, but they all lead her to their sweet + precious Clay.

Lexi decided to be induced + was given cytotec to help soften her cervix — her body responded well and her water broke spontaneously around 3 am on Friday morning.

Labor quickly progressed and she labored confidently with coping tools like massage, aromatherapy, counterpressure, acupressure and biblical truth and affirmations.

As labor progressed, she made the empowered decision to utilize the epidural as a tool in her pain management tool kit.

This helped relax mama + quickly she was complete and ready to deliver her baby boy!

She was able to deliver with her midwife, have skin to skin, and breastfeed just like she had planned.

Birth rarely goes the way we expect, but it’s how we are treated + respected that makes all the difference.

“Truly my birth was defined by God and I just want Him to get the glory. It was such a sacred and special time. It was nothing that I planned but everything the Lord did.”

Aint it funny how life ✨changes ✨

Exactly 1 year ago, I was a single mom loving my son fiercely but wondering how much longer I had to do it alone.

A beautiful promise from God fulfilled 🌈

✨Positive homebirth ✨

My favorite part of Jasmine’s birth was as she rode the waves in to transition, she kept praying + calling out to Jesus.

There’s never a moment where we don’t need Him.

Jasmine was a rockstar and her husband, James, was too. He was supporting her through soothing words + calming touch.

The best way to describe the atmosphere was just peaceful. The music, the dim lighting, and the glow of the Christmas tree already put together (😂) was all perfect for sweet baby Harlin Willow to make her entrance at 6:35 this morning!

Baby came quick and immediately after birth, they bonded as a family of three with no intervention of interruption in the comfort of their home 🤍
