Follow Barton Blackorby, MD (The Retina Institute, St Louis) AKA The Eye MD for daily tips and interesting facts Dr. Blackorby earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2013 after completing his undergraduate education at Illinois College. He went on to complete internship training and residency of ophthalmology at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis,

Washington. He has been in the practice of ophthalmology since 2016, and currently is the Chief of Ophthalmology at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. Dr. Blackorby plays active roles as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Through these organizations he is able to maintain the cutting edge knowledge and surgical techniques of ophthalmology , and influence the medical community far beyond his practice. In the clinic, he has a strong experience in refractive surgery with over 200 refractive procedures; including LASIK, PRK, Cataract Extraction, ICL implantation, and Refractive Lens Exchange procedures. In addition, he is able to perform a vast variety of surgical procedures ranging from strabismus surgery, blepharoplasty, intravitreal injections, in-office lid procedures, laser trabeculoplasty, laser retinopexy, and panretinal photocoagulation. The values instilled upon Dr. Blackorby during his military career are core to his practice and applied to every patient that comes to his clinic. Selfless service, integrity, honesty, and duty are given to every patient regardless of their condition. He has set a precedent for the type of surgeon every patient should have, and is excited to extend it to his new patients as well. Digital eye strain occurs due to prolonged screen time on phones, tablets, and computers. Symptoms include dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, and difficulty focusing. Taking regular breaks using the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds) can help reduce strain!
