Meet Darryl!

Darryl has been a member at Independence Center for 6 years.

"I come to the Clubhouse as often as possible. The Clubhouse has connected me to work positions, such as transitional employment that has helped me prepare for full-time independent employment. I still have some support, at my current job at the Saint Louis Zoo."

"I am a very determined individual. I like to see progress and work on teams. Independence Center highlights my need for teamwork, and workplace resilience. Life is complicated, but choosing to do the right thing when no one is looking is what I’m built for. Leading to recognition when it is my time to shine and grow from the inside out"

"I want people to know that the strength of the Clubhouse is great. The Clubhouse plants seeds. The work ordered day is practical and inviting."

"My sense of belonging is enhanced when I am active in the Clubhouse. I feel wanted, needed, and expected. I know my work in the unit is respected and valuable."

Darryl recently graduated from the Respect Institute, where he learned to craft and tell his story. He then got the share his work at a recent Education and Employment meeting.

donated $7,320 to Independence Center St. Louis to fund the purchase and installation of a chair lift at the organization's Stupp Apartments, a residential care facility that houses adults with serious mental illness in need of 24/7 support and care.
