“From Dreams to Reality: Our Fertility Journey with WashU

My husband and I were so excited to have a baby, but once we started actively trying to conceive is when it truly hit me just how hard it is to get pregnant, even in the most perfect conditions! After 6 months of trying to conceive, I consulted my OBGYN, who guided me through the next six months.

I spent countless dollars on ovulation tests, pregnancy tests, basically anything that could help my husband and I on our journey to becoming parents. At the year mark, I was referred to seek further assistance, and I chose WashU because of the high regards, rates, and I preferred a true hospital affiliation. I say with 100% certainty that I made the best choice for us! ...”

“Our Journey to Parenthood: A Story of Hope, Loss, and Unshakable Faith

My husband and I have been together for nearly ten years, and for eight of those, we’ve been on the long and emotional journey of trying to conceive. Becoming a mother has always been my greatest dream — something I carried deep in my heart for as long as I can remember. But early on, I began to realize that this dream wouldn’t come easily. We tried everything — treatments, medications, all while holding onto hope. In 2023, I made the difficult decision to pause everything else in my life and focus completely on our path to becoming parents. That’s when I met Dr. Omurtag, and for the first time in a long time, I felt true hope again…”

“My husband and I struggled to get pregnant with our second baby. The struggle was very unexpected, we conceived our first easily. Finally, after 8 months of trying, we got a positive test. A few weeks later (and less than a month into COVID), we found out I was miscarrying. That loss would be our first of 4 losses and the start of our secondary infertility journey.”

“I met Dr. Omurtag and his crew in March 2022. I went to him after failing four previous rounds of IVF at another clinic with no explanation except bad luck. He right off the top started doing testing to try to figure out why I kept failing these rounds...”

“For as long as I can remember, I have always dreamed of becoming a mother. But life has a way of testing us in ways we don’t expect. My infertility journey began with a sense of confusion and heartbreak. Like many others, I never anticipated how difficult it would be to conceive. Months turned into years of disappointment, and I found myself facing the reality that I might need help.

The IVF Journey Begins: 2020

In 2020, after many visits to specialists, countless tests, and emotional tolls, we decided to take the plunge into IVF (in vitro fertilization). It was a decision that filled me with both fear and hope. The process was intense: medications, injections, doctor appointments, and countless ups and downs‚ but I pushed forward. Every step was a mix of excitement and anxiety, wondering if this would be the moment that brought us closer to our dream. The day we learned that IVF had worked was the most overwhelming and beautiful moment. After everything we had been through, the result was positive. I was pregnant! The road to that moment had been long and filled with uncertainty, but in that instant, all the struggles seemed worth it...”

Welcome to our new weekly series, our ‘Patient Spotlight!’

Meet the Prins family:

“In 2016, after 3 years of trying to get pregnant, we were referred to Dr. Odem. Both my husband and I have issues that make it hard for us to conceive a child. With WashU Medicine Fertility help and IVF we had a set of twins boys in July 2017. We were very blessed to have 2 embryos frozen. In the spring of 2021 we decided to grow our family and I, unfortunately, miscarried. October of 2021 we were getting ready to do another transfer when by a miracle we fell pregnant on our own. We came in to see Dr. Ratts, who wanted to confirm the pregnancy. As time progressed it was discovered that it was an ectopic pregnancy. Dr. Ratts took great care of me. After that we waited until spring of 2022, when we transferred the last embryo and unfortunately we had another miscarriage.

In October of 2022, we discussed with Dr. Ratts and we decided to do a fresh transfer...”
