The Empowerment Network, Inc (TEN) is a 501(c)(3) federally recognized nonprofit organization incorporated under Missouri State statutes. Over the past five years we have been very active in the struggle against Prostate Cancer across the Saint Louis Metropolitan area. is relatively new as a group, our many years of service to academe and the community has proven to be invaluable in this endeavor.

Members of our staff and board have over 150 years combined experience in service at the community and academic levels. TEN has developed and maintained successful on-going partnerships with: the Betty J. Kerr People’s Health Center; 100 Black Men of Saint Louis; The Call to Oneness; Better Family Life; Saint Louis City Department of Public Health; 27th Ward Alderman Greg Carter; the Saint Louis University School of Public Health and Washington University’s Siteman Cancer Center. Recently, TEN celebrated the opening of our Cancer Center located at 6000 West Florissant, St. This new Center affords us the opportunity to expand our services to include other forms of cancer across larger populations of underserved and hard to reach community residents.

A higher risk
Black and African American men are much more likely to develop prostate cancer. One in six Black men will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime—compared to one in eight men overall.

Black men are 1.7 times more likely to be diagnosed with—and 2.1 times more likely to die from—prostate cancer than white men. Black men are also slightly more likely than white men to be diagnosed with advanced disease.
