While this did NOT occur here in St. Louis last night, it serves as a reminder of just how quickly bad things can happen during a game, or practice, or just in the locker room. Thankfully, this player will make a full recovery, without permanent damage. When coaches and administrators, league and tournament directors plan events, too often the medical professionals are the last one's who are contacted, and generally are contacted after budgets are discussed and set.
I cannot emphasize enough, how fast things can go wrong in a game like hockey. The pace is sometimes furious, and there are 12-16 pairs of razor sharp skates in a 200' x 85' area.
Having a licensed medical provider who is specifically trained to handle athletic injuries, including emergencies like this one, or most recently the dislocated knee from the NFL, on site should never be debated.
St. Louis Athletic Training Services, provides ONLY licensed Athletic Trainers to sports of all levels.
