Mental Health First Aid Missouri Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial help given to someone developing a mental health challenge or experiencing a mental health crisis.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Missouri conducts courses designed to teach the general public how to recognize symptoms of mental health problems, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person towards appropriate treatments and other supportive help. There are curriculums for adults and youth along with specializations in public safety, veterans, and faith-based groups. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Missouri is housed within the Missouri Institute of Mental Health and is one of three national partners in the US that teach and distribute the curriculum. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based mental health awareness program that helps prepare pre-service educators to feel more confident noticing signs and symptoms and assisting youth with mental health challenges in the school setting.

Participants learn:
•Signs & symptoms of common mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and substance use
•A five-step action plan to assist youth experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.
•How to connect a youth with professional help and resources
