When LFCS team member Evelyn Beussink heard about the Stars, Stripes, and Relaxing Nights Raffle, she knew exactly what the perfect addition to the prize package would be: a quilt made with love, care, and a deep connection to our mission.

“When Christy began to share the plans for the raffle, right away I thought about how nice it would be to wrap up in a quilt on a fall night around the fire," Evelyn shared. "I thought a quilt would be a good addition to the package.”

Originally planning to donate a finished quilt from her collection, Evelyn shifted gears when she heard about the raffle's patriotic theme. In just one week, she crafted a brand new red, white, and blue quilt using a mix of fabric from her personal stash and a few special finds from her friend’s local quilt shop, Bohemian Scrapsody.

Quilting has been Evelyn’s passion for over 10 years — she’s made more than 200 quilts and describes it as her form of self-care. “When I make a quilt for someone, I’m really thinking of them and putting love into it,” she says.

Now one lucky raffle winner will get to wrap up in Evelyn’s handmade creation — part of a $1,300+ prize package that also includes a gas fire pit, Adirondack chairs, a cooler, speaker, and more.

🎟️ Tickets are $25 each, 3 for $50, or 7 for $100

Our Cape Girardeau office has been overwhelmed recently by the abundant kindness our church supporters! Within the past few weeks, we have been blessed by:

- St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson who brought in 834 diapers and 3688 wipes

- Immanuel Lutheran in Tilsit/Jackson that donated 968 diapers and 1698 wipes

- St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cape dropped off a large collection of baby necessities

- Concordia Lutheran in Frohna, Trinity Lutheran & Immanuel Lutheran both in Altenburg all held a VBS Diaper drive for our clients in need of help (675 diapers and 1,600 wipes in all!).

We are so grateful for your kindness! These supplies will go directly to families in Cape looking for some help and stability. Since our office opened 50+ years ago, we have been blessed by the support of the churches in our community. Thank you for your donations and helping LFCS make Southeast Missouri safer and stronger together!

There’s something truly magical about a hug. It’s a simple gesture — yet it holds the power to say “You’re safe,” “You’re loved,” and “You’re not alone.”

On National Share A Hug Day, we celebrate the healing, comforting, and connecting power of a warm embrace:

👶 A hug can calm a crying child and help them feel secure.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 It reminds families that love is stronger than any challenge.
💬 Among friends, it can say more than words ever could.
💔 After loss or hardship, a hug can offer strength and hope.

At LFCS, we see every day how the smallest acts of love — like a hug — can make the biggest difference. Hugs promote mental well-being, reduce stress, build trust, and strengthen the bonds that keep us connected.

So today, we invite you to open your arms — to your child, a friend, a neighbor, or someone who simply needs to know they’re cared for.

Because sometimes, the best way to say “I’m here for you” is with a hug.

Last year the LFCS Adoption Program helped create 18 forever families — each one a beautiful new beginning built on love, trust, and hope.

At LFCS, we believe adoption is not a one-sided journey — it’s a deeply thoughtful process that honors every member of the adoption triad: the child, the birth family, and the adoptive family. Our team walks alongside each person with care and compassion, working to ensure the best match for a child to grow in a healthy, happy, and loving home.

To the adoptive families who opened their hearts, to the birth parents who made courageous and selfless decisions, and to the children now embraced by forever homes — we celebrate you.

If you're considering adoption or wondering if LFCS is the right partner for your journey — whether as a hopeful adoptive couple or a birth parent exploring your options — know this: You will be met with understanding, respect, and a team you can trust.
