Let me introduce myself. Growing up, I always assumed I would be a doctor. As I started to work towards that goal in undergrad, I found myself distracted and not in love with what I was learning practicing medicine to be. I didn’t want to just give drugs and mask conditions. I left undergrad and immersed myself in the world of “Alternative” medicine. I became a massage therapist and studied energy healing. As I practiced as a massage therapist I started to feel called to work with pregnant women. I obtained my certification in prenatal massage in 2002 and have never looked back, I found my passion. Working with women, specifically during pregnancy but through all of life. During my years as a massage therapist I began getting asked to attend births as a doula and decided to also obtain my certification for that. I took my training through DONA and loved attending births. Then I came to a realization, this work was exhausting and I was young. I couldn’t see doing this as a career for the next 45 years. It was around this time that I met a brother and sister team of chiropractors. What I learned from them and experienced under their care changed my life. I had found the type of doctor that I really wanted to be. I had found a way to care for people that addressed the underlying causes of their symptoms and could make real changes rather than just using band-aids and medications. I immediately enrolled in Logan College of Chiropractic for the next leg of my journey. While I was at Logan two things happened that were key in my development as a doctor. The first thing was meeting an amazing OB/Gyn who helped me to connect my passion for women’s healthcare to my education as a chiropractor. The second was that I got sick, and what I had was not readily treatable by natural means. I was surrounded by natural providers, but none of their answers could solve my problem, and they were all so insistent that I manage things naturally. In the end, I needed surgery and it truly saved my life. What I learned was that there is a very delicate balance between allopathic and natural healing methods. Both have a lot to offer, true wisdom lies in knowing when each is needed. After several years as a chiropractor in a large practice in St. Peters I saw the opportunity for my dream job. The OB who had nurtured my passion was practicing in an office that was offering more and more services and had just added a Family Medicine doctor who was practicing internal medicine. I thought to myself, the only thing that is missing is me. So now I get to practice in an OB/Gyn office where I can work as part of a team helping women be as healthy as possible. I love that I am able to offer chiropractic and acupuncture, but I also love that I have a fabulous team that I trust to care for the same patients from a medical model. We are not in competition, but a team all working for the well-being of our patients.
