I was recently interviewed on the Ask the Expert segment on Fox 2 regarding concussions. There is a lot that a neurosurgeon with over 20 years of trauma and many years of pain management can offer that you would not be able to find elsewhere.

This incredible achievement is the combination of 21 years of hard work, lots of sacrifices, persistence, and perseverance. But I did not achieve this milestone by myself. 1st, I thank God for putting me in this situation so I could help so many patients with their pain and suffering. I thank all my partners and colleagues who have trusted me with their patients. I have been blessed with incredible office staff who worked tirelessly to make sure that we could provide the proper care in a timely fashion, whether it is an appointment, an injection, or surgery. I have worked at a number of hospitals and surgery centers over the years. I thank all the nurses and the support staff who took care of my patients in all aspects of their care. And very importantly, I thank all the patients who have trusted me with their own or their loved ones care. I have been privileged to operate on patients from one hour to over 100 years old. I have operated on a broad spectrum of neurosurgical diseases including brain tumors, aneurysms, spinal stenosis, disk herniations, and helped many patients suffering from chronic pain. I have received so many touching letters, postcards, and comments. I hold them all close to my heart. A truly humbling experience.

This patient was riding a motorcycle when he was involved in a high-speed crash. He fractured his left tibia plateau which was treated with a cast. But he continued to complain of knee pain. He underwent a left knee arthroscopic surgery. Immediately after surgery, he experienced severe pain and swelling of the knee followed by skin discoloration and severe burning pain. He was diagnosed with CRPS of the left knee. He had limited range of motion of the knee and was limited to walking less than 50 feet and lifting less than 10 pounds. Treatments included neuropathic medications, narcotics, PT and lumbar sympathectomy without any relief.
We performed an infrapatellar saphenous nerve (inferior medial geniculate nerve) block which was temporarily helpful. Therefore, we proceeded with a PNS implant. Soon after surgery, we were able to wean his narcotics. The patient is able to walk further distances without the aid of a cane and enjoying a more meaningful quality of life.

Here at Arch Neurosurgery, we are still open and seeing patients. We use the usual universal precautions such as washing hands before and after seeing patients. We wipe down the chairs, doorknobs, pens, and clipboards. We ask our patients to wash their hands before and after they leave our office. Most importantly, if you are sick, please call and cancel your appointment. DO NOT show up. Instead call your primary care physician for instructions.
Thank you very much,
Dr. Joseph Yazdi and staff
