Healing smoke from aromatic resins and dried plant material adds a soothing scent to the atmosphere in a room. Studies have proven that many chemicals found in aromatic plants can actually modulate brain chemistry and even remove bacteria from the air.

STL Herbs and Aromatics incense is made with the powdered bark of the tree Machillus thunbergii. This bark is naturally combustible allowing no need for charcoal or saltpeter. The dough is is then hand rolled into sticks and dried. The resulting incense is pure, resinous and herbal material.

To burn our incense light one end of a stick. Allow the flame to burn several seconds and then extinguish the flame gently leaving the tip smoldering. Nestle this stick in a dish of uncooked rice, ash, small pebbles, or sand.

S U N T E A
Summer is here and boy is it hot. I got out to water and tend to my garden early before the heat. The act of gardening is such a healing meditation. I truly feel fulfilled playing an active role in creating the food and medicine that nourishes and heals my body and my family. It is true empowerment. Tending a garden through the seasons bolsters our immune system and nourishes us on so many levels. We are fortified by the sun’s vitamin D. Our nervous systems are soothed by breathing in the aromatherapy of fragrant herbs as we brush past them. Spending time in the garden pulling weeds grounds us and tending our herbal allies provides exercise to tone our muscles. This morning I harvested herbs from my tea garden and made sun tea. Brewing sun tea is one of my favorite ways to enjoy summer in the garden. The tea I made today had fresh lemon balm, lemongrass, lemon verbena, peppermint, tulsi, blue vervain, anise hyssop, and calendula.

To make sun tea:

1 ) chop fresh harvested herbs and pack into a clear glass jar, cover the herbs with water and cover with a lid.

2) Set in Sun for 2-6 hoursI like to visit it every so often throughout the day to make sure the jar is still in full sun.

3.) Strain the tea through a mesh strainer, cheesecloth or colander.

4.) Pour into a glass and top with ice. Add a squeeze of lemon or sweeten your tea with the sweetener of your choice and enjoy!
