💡 Big ideas, real impact.

Last week, our team took part in Thinksgiving, a one-day event hosted by Cortex that brings together local nonprofits and business partners to solve challenges and strengthen our community.

We were honored to partner with our friends at Enterprise Bank & Trust, led by Christopher Struttmann, who shared their expertise to help us explore ways to streamline and strengthen our Community Family Services program — especially for children and families in foster care.

Together, we brainstormed strategies to improve systems, increase efficiency, and enhance the way we serve.

A huge thank-you to our staff team:
💛 Mandy Kamykowski
💛 Adam Irace
💛 Nicole Pashia
💛 Moriah Schollman

And to Cortex for hosting such a meaningful day. Thinksgiving reminds us that when community and creativity come together, everyone benefits — especially the children we serve.

💛 When a child receives support early, it can change everything.

At Our Little Haven, we believe in the power of early intervention — because the best time to help is as soon as the need appears.

From mental health care to developmental support, we walk alongside children and families at the start of their healing journey, so that change can last a lifetime.

Our Little Academy Day Treatment team got into the spirit of the day dressed as beloved Cat in the Hat characters - and the kids joined right in by making their own costumes to match the theme! ✨

After some creative crafting, the children trick-or-treated through our Administrative Building — a fun tradition we look forward to every year. 🍬❤️

At Our Little Academy, joy, imagination, and connection are all part of the healing journey.

✨ 20 Lessons for 20 Years of OLA – Lessons 17–20 💛

We’ve reached the final set of lessons in our 20 Lessons for 20 Years series — insights from two decades of growth, healing, and child-centered care at Our Little Academy.

Lesson 17: Teamwork makes the dream work! OLA is a team-based program, and the love and trust among staff is what keeps us going on the hardest days 🤝💙

Lesson 18: Rituals and traditions build connection. From tie-dyeing shirts in the summer to decorating gingerbread houses in winter, OLA traditions create belonging and joy 🌈🏠

Lesson 19: Everyone deserves a break. Mental health care starts with caring for your own well-being first 🧠💛

Lesson 20: It takes a village. The magic at OLA happens because of our full agency team, generous donors, and a caring community 💫

Thank you for following along as we’ve shared 20 heartfelt lessons. And thank you for being part of the journey 💙

It was a beautiful day to join our friends at Mastercard for their annual Fall Picnic - and what a fun way to make a difference!

Team members could make a donation for the chance to throw a pie at a leader from their AI-DPE team — all in support of Our Little Haven’s mission.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special - especially Dylan Sykes, who took one for the team, John Chisholm, who led the pie toss, and Kate Faherty, Jane Zahrndt, and all who planned this generous and joy-filled event.

We’re so grateful to and all their team members for your partnership and support!

✨ 20 Lessons for 20 Years of OLA – Lessons 13–16 💛

The insights from Our Little Academy continue as we celebrate two decades of early intervention, growth, and healing. Here are the next four lessons from our team:

Lesson 13: It’s easy to get stuck in a bad pattern. When that happens, do whatever you can to shake things up — even if it’s something weird 🎭 A pattern won’t break itself. You have to do something different.

Lesson 14: Serious work doesn’t always need to be serious. Silliness and playfulness can be powerful tools for connection and healing 🤪🎈

Lesson 15: Manners matter. Saying “please” and “thank you” often shows respect for others and for yourself 🙏💬

Lesson 16: Get outside every day. Sunshine, fresh air, and green spaces support mental and emotional health 🌤️🌳

More real-life lessons coming soon as we continue celebrating !

The Cookie Jar Story

Our Little Haven is complicated - the kids and families are overwhelmed, the system is "broke" and often there is no place to get help. OLH invites the community to help through early intervention which is in itself is complicated. So, to help explain the beauty of Our Little Haven here is a simple story. We believe when we’re born, God gives us a Cookie Jar and with each positive experience - each hug, each high-five, each success – we get a cookie in our Cookie Jar. At about ten years old (the ending of our formative years) our Cookie Jar gets sealed up and what we have in our Jar is what nurtures us for the rest of our lives. Now, most of our Cookie Jars are pretty full. The Haven Kids, well, their Jars are empty and it’s our honor to fill them. That’s what the community does – helping to fill Cookie Jars.
