Next up, we have nurse practitioner Terry Boxdorfer, who leaves Signature after more than three decades!
After high school, Terry worked as a maid at a local hotel, sold tropical fish, and worked for the US Post Office. After the Christmas rush of 1979, she was laid off from the Post office; her Aunt Joann worked in admitting at Barnes Hospital and made some calls. Terry interviewed for a unit clerk position for either the neuro floor or the ortho floor. Not having any medical knowledge and not knowing what neuro meant, she chose the ortho floor thinking it was orthodontics (imagine her surprise when it was bones!).
Terry met many incredible people while on that orthopedics floor, including many inspiring nurses whom she still sees today. One of them even introduced her to her husband of 38 years! She then went on to work in the Washington University ortho office and became a medical assistant for Dr. Lawrence Kriegshauser. He left to join St. Louis County Orthopedics in 1988. SLCOC eventually became Premier, and finally, Signature.
Terry had a family and went to nursing school before coming back to work for Dr. David Anderson and then Dr. Kriegshauser again. She has been here ever since (a whopping 32 years!), earning her nurse practitioner credentials along the way.
"I have enjoyed working for Signature and will truly miss it," Terry says. "Mostly the patient contact and my co-workers. I thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to work with them here at Signature and all who supported me through this wonderful journey. I also want to thank my wonderful family, my husband, Jim, and kids, Nick, Jake and Claire as well as the entire family who have always been there when I needed them. And lastly, it wasn't a bad ride for a 21-year-old girl who thought she was going to work with teeth!"
Thank you, Terry, for your many decades of dedicated service to patients and to Signature! We'll miss having you around the office!
