New research could help train the immune system to recognize and attack glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer that remains one of the most treatment-resistant tumors in medicine.

Each patient’s tumor can contain unique proteins and molecular markers — cancer is biologically unique to the individual. The goal of this emerging therapy for glioblastoma — still in the early stages of development — is to create a more individualized treatment.

The second linear particle accelerator (LINAC) at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is now up and running, expanding radiation therapy options for patients closer to home. Both LINACs at Siteman–West County deliver precise external beam radiotherapy for the treatment of breast, head and neck, genitourinary, skin, lung and bone cancers, as well as sarcomas, lymphoma and gastrointestinal cancers including colorectal, liver and pancreatic cancer.
