RESOURCE: The Trans Youth Emergency Project (TYEP) helps families navigate the complex and exhausting maze, offering logistical and financial support. They also provide 1-on-1 custom patient navigation services to unimpacted providers and supports families of transgender youth with travel grants that are renewable four times a year.

Here we go again, friends!

If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember that my Pride flag was set on fire and my trans-affirming yard signs were stolen back in August 2023. Well, welcome to the latest installment of 𝘏𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯, 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥, 𝘓𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭, 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘳-𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘴𝘵’𝘴 𝘖𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦!

This time, the vandalism came with more of an “arts and crafts” flair—though frankly, the ex*****on was embarrassingly clumsy. So, points off for the crude handiwork and a big ol’ Whomp Whomp for the cowardice, bigotry, and criminal destruction carried out at my sweet little love-filled office under the cover of darkness during Pride month.

Look, I’m ok. I’m not afraid and I welcome the nudge to get fresh new signs so I can keep proudly honoring and uplifting q***r lives. What really matters here are the jagged claw marks of the homophobia, transphobia and racism that continue to rip through this country. That’s the real danger, the real damage. And that’s why I am showing up here, spreading love where someone tried to plant hate.

✨ I am proud to be a q***r-affirming, anti-racist therapist and human. I stand unapologetically with LGBTQIA+ people, Black and brown people, trans and nonbinary people. If you are a part of these targeted groups and need a reminder that you are loved, seen, and worth defending—let this be it.

✨ I believe love is resistance and community is stronger than cruelty. I’m calling on my community again—especially white, cishet allies—to show up and show out. I believe in a future where we all get to be safe, seen, and celebrated.

Last night in the president's joint address he said, "And now, I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing s*x changes on children and forever ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body. This is a big lie. And our message to every child in America is that you are perfect exactly the way God made you."

Let's talk about it.

1. While I don't usually use the language of "being trapped in the wrong body", I know that feels authentic and true for some transgender people while it doesn't feel true for others.. so we'll put that aside for a second. Here's the thing the president and I agree on... you are perfect exactly the way God made you.

Transgender, non binary, and gender expansive people of all ages are whole and holy. They are not mistakes. They are exactly who God created them to be.

2. This statement by the president is once again evidence that efforts to legislate the existence of transgender people are not at all about protecting women in sports or about protecting children from irresponsible medical care as their talking points repeatedly say... at its core, it's that transgender people don't and shouldn't exist. Period.

But transgender people do exist. They have always existed, and they will always exist. Efforts to villify them, isolate them from community, separate them from their peers in school, make it impossible for them to exist in public life, and prevent them from accessing evidence-based, medically necessary healthcare are not about protecting anyone.

3. You need to understand that this is the basis of all of their fight. This is why you cannot say "well I just care about the safety of girls in locker rooms, but I'm not transphobic" or "I just don't believe kids should be allowed to transition but I'm still ok being friends with trans people".

If you're worried about the safety of girls in locker rooms, then you don't harm an entire innocent community. You hold abusers accountable. If you're worried about women's sports, you listen to the overwhelming number of women athletes who are asking for equal funding, protection from the actual abusers in the system, and do not support legislation that polices gender and bodies in a way that hurts all women. If you're worried about medical treatment, you advocate for ongoing research and education (and the funds that make it happen) around appropriate care instead of jeopardizing the safety of all children by threatening the hospitals and providers that serve them.

Transgender people are not the problem here. They are not a lie. They are a beautiful representation of the rich diversity of God's creation. And any efforts to harm, exclude, vilify, and eradicate God's children are the antithesis of what it means to be a Christian.

You don't need to spend money. This isn't about that. This is about understanding a deeply vulnerable community so you can be a part of standing up to the relentless attacks they are facing.
